Game Review for Fire Emblem: Echoes

Playing and finishing Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia took a lot of time and patience. It’s a game that challenged your sense of logic in terms of making strategies and also knowing how to customize your team. Another twist that gets thrown into the mix is the thought of perma-death. While there were wells of revival, they only appeared in the latter portion of the story. So, what’s our game review for this game? Here’s the rundown!

Gameplay

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia lived up to its tradition as a tactics turn-based game. The terrain played a portion in strategy making especially for certain job classes. While playing the game, seeing your character survive what should have been a deadly attack could remove a heavy load off your shoulders. After all, being unable to revive them like normal games forces you to balance out your team. In Alm’s Army, his team prioritizes mobility and surround tactics. Celica on the other hand is a power army; they rely on pure power to blast through her enemies. This really forces you to think as one move can either make or break your game.

Storyline, Characters, Settings

The characters are quite well-rounded in terms of personality. Each of them have a distinct personality such as Alm wanting to have a family, Celica and her sense of duty and sacrifice. Because of this, a lot of the characters are pretty well rounded. And in terms of aesthetics, they did a lot of improvements in terms of appearance even with basis on their old designs.

Graphics and Other Additional Settings

The graphics may have looked a bit block like but still had some realistic feel to it. Not only did it appear as an improvement to its old form but, it triggered a sense of nostalgia. The music fit the environment especially the ones in the Temple of Duma. Not only that, they improved the battle scenes. For me, it was a great sight to watch especially seeing Saber use Astra against his enemies and performing a critical hit every single time.

Final Result

It’s definitely a good game. But it’s the kind of game that can make you want to rip your hair out. It’s also the kind of game that makes you feel for your characters. But it’s not meant for people who have low tolerance to frustration especially when you’re trying to prevent your characters from dying.
