Based on the trailers, Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom abandons the old turn-based style of Ni no Kuni: The White Witch. Instead, it employs a real-time battle system. Similarly to how Final Fantasy broke off from the turn-based gameplay, Ni no Kuni II intends to add more mechanics into the battle to allow more participation.

One of the featured mechanics includes the charging of both the melee and ranged attack. The long ranged attacks include a variety of spells which will function as one of the main staples of attack. They also added a new feature known as the Higgledy which have colour designations depending on their abilities in battle.

Why the sudden delay?

Director Akihiro Hino explains that he wanted to flesh out more of the details in Ni no Kuni 2. He wished to “deliver the full experience of Ni no Kuni 2” to the fans hence his decision to delay. He apologizes to the fan as well for the delay and hopes to fully deliver on January 19, 2018.
