Once you have opened the Party Menu, select a character that you wish to change the formation in the party. Then, press the RB button to place the character in the back row, and press the LB button to place the character in the front row.

Press the ↑ or ↓ to change formation while in Squad Battle.

Press the button to put the character taking a turn in the front row, and press the button to put the character in the back row. Note that the party formation affects their melee damage and the damage they take while in battle.

Recommended Party Formation

Place your non-melee damage dealers and supports in the back row.

Placing your non-melee damage dealers in the back row will allow them to deal damage while taking less damage from enemies. However, back row characters will deal less melee damage, so it is highly recommended to place characters that rely on their magic-based skills, support skills, or long-range attacks.

Recommended Back Row Archetypes

  • Mage
  • Masked Dancer
  • Summoner
  • Gunner
  • Healer

These Archetypes depend greatly on their skills or long-range attacks, making them well-suited for the back row.

Place your melee damage dealers and tanks in the front row.

Positioning your melee damage dealers and tanks in the front row enables them to inflict their full melee damage. However, they will also sustain full damage from enemies. Therefore, it is advisable to put characters in the front row with high durability who can tank damage from enemies and those that rely heavily on their melee damage.

Recommended Front Row Archetypes

  • Seeker
  • Warrior
  • Knight
  • Thief
  • Berserker
  • Gunner
  • Brawler
  • Commander

These Archetypes can deal decent to great melee damage and possess high HP, making them well-suited in the front row.

Change positions from time-to-time during battle.

When a party member is taking a turn, he or she can switch from the front row to the back, or vice versa, without using up the entire turn. This tactic can be used to protect members with low HP or to dodge attacks, especially since some enemies may give a hint about their next target.
