Fire Emblem: Three Houses is the latest entry in the Fire Emblem series of turned-based tactical RPGs. The games are known for their heavy focus on strategic gameplay, as well as a massive roster of characters with their own unique storylines.
In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, players take control of a warrior named Byleth who is appointed professor at the Garreg Mach Monastery’s Officer’s Academy. As part of the faculty, Byleth must teach and train his students both inside the classroom and on the battlefield amidst an impending war between the great territories of Fodlan. While at the academy, Byleth meets and becomes teacher to the heads of the three student houses: Edelgard of the Adrestian Empire, Dimitri of the Kingdom of Faerghus, and Claude of the Leicester Alliance.
Turned-Based Battle System
Retaining the series’ traditional turn-based tactical gameplay, Fire Emblem: Three Houses takes the player across vast battlefields during the game’s main narrative.
Throughout the game, players must take on enemies ranging between bandits, knights, dragons and monstrous fiends while making sure that no serious harm comes to their students.
Troops Supporting Units
Fire Emblem: Three Houses will feature battalions that support each individual unit in battle – a first in the series. The image shows Edelgard directing an attack with mounted Adrestian knights.
Outside of combat, players will be able to experience various social events as an academy instructor by interacting with students and other teachers. Some of the social features include one-on-one tutoring, bonding over lunch, or simply talking with your students.
Players will be able to sit at the mess hall with their students to engage in some light dialogue between characters. These events are good opportunities to learn more about the player’s students.
As a professor, players will need to track the growth of the students’ skills to make them more effective in battle.
Retaining the exploration feature from Shadows of Valentia, players will be able to freely roam the monastery to interact with the characters or enjoy the game’s scenery and architecture.
A travelling mercenary named Byleth joins the Officer’s Academy at Garegg Mach Monastery with the position of professor. Prior to arriving at the academy, Byleth awakens an unknown power within him. His quest to discover more about the event causes him to have visions of a mysterious girl named Sothis who guides Byleth and his mercenary troop to the monastery.
The player character is a newly-appointed professor at the Officer’s Academy of the Garegg Mach Monastery. During his time at the academy, he must nurture both the minds and hearts of his students within the walls of the lecture room and perilous battlefields beyond it.
In the game, the player can decide whether to play as a male or female version of Byleth, though much of the promotional material shows the former.
Edelgard von Hresvelg
The heiress apparent to the Adrestian Empire, Edelgard is the leader of the Black Eagles house at the academy. She has as a noble and refined demeanor despite outwardly appearing cold to those around her. Edelgard’s favored weapon is an ax.
Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd
Dimitri is the prince of the Kingdom of Faerghus who leads the Blue Lions house. Owing to his kingdom’s love of chivalry, Dimitri embodies knightly virtues, though an “inner darkness” seems to dwell inside him. His weapon of choice is a lance.
Claude von Riegan
Claude comes from the noble family that reigns over the Leicester Alliance. The leader of the Golden Deer house seems like the most laid back of the three student heads, though this only hides a perceptive individual with keen insight. Claude’s favored weapon is the bow.
A mysterious girl who appears to Byleth in a vision. Not much has been revealed about Sothis, though her appearance, particularly her ears, suggests that she is not human.
