Always check the mini-map for obtainable items and chests.

As you explore various dungeons in Metaphor: ReFantazio, the mini-map will display various icons indicating collectible items and treasure chests. Be sure to check out these locations as soon as possible to avoid missing them if you progress too far into the main story.

Know each enemy’s weaknesses in battle.

As with Shin Megami Tensei and Persona games, Metaphor’s combat system is heavily-focused on exploiting your enemy’s weaknesses.

Hitting your foe with skills that they are vulnerable to will cause your target to take considerably more damage than normal. In addition, the action points you consume will be halved, allowing you to take more actions.

Knowing how to manage your action points is crucial as you progress further into more challenging battles since you will sometimes need to attack and heal all in the same turn.

Raise your (Will’s) Magic stat during the early stages.

It is highly recommended to raise the Protagonist Will’s Magic stat during the game’s early stages. This is because encounters near the start of the main story can easily be won by spamming magic skills that enemies are weak against.

Stohl, the first Follower you gain in the game, excels in physical attacks when he joins you as he automatically has the Warrior Archetype unlocked. By having Will focus on Magic, you can immediately form a versatile team that can cover both damage categories to easily take down most early-game enemies.

Talk to Gallica if you do not know what to do next.

If you are unsure what to do or where to go next, press the △ button to talk to Gallica. Doing so will cause Gallica to review your current objectives so be sure to talk to her often while exploring.

Certain events may affect your stats and parameters.

Your choice in certain story conversations or success in various events may reward you with increases to your stats and parameters throughout the game. Because of this, take your time when deciding a response when talking to NPCs or spend time trying to clear certain events with the best results to gain the most benefits out of them.

Do not miss out on Gold Beetles you can collect while exploring.

Gold-colored gathering points around the map indicate spots to find Gold Beetles. These are essentially rare items that are said to be seen as “collectibles” by certain people in the game. More information on this will be added when they are confirmed upon the game’s release.

Beat Fire Dragon Mauna in Nord Mines to get the Dragon’s Indignation greatsword.

Beating the optional boss Fire Dragon Mauna in Nord Mines allows you to obtain the powerful early-game greatsword Dragon’s Indignation for Stohl. This is, however, no easy feat, especially when you first start the game as Mauna is able to output massive damage to quickly wipe out your team in a few turns.

Since Mauna is weak against Ice, use Ice skills or purchase Ice Blocks from the merchant beforehand to help you beat the boss.

Combat Tips

Stun enemies by taking advantage of Fast Battle.

Try to attack enemies you see on the field (Fast Battle) to reduce their break gauge. Doing so allows you to stun them, granting you a massive advantage when the actual turn-based battle begins.

Restart battles if you think you cannot win anymore.

Press the L3 button (press down on the left analog stick) to restart the battle. This is particularly useful for when you think there is very little chance for you to turn the fight around.

Another good way to make use of this feature is to use your first encounter with an enemy to figure out its weaknesses. Then, restart the battle with its vulnerabilities in-mind to win more easily.

Switch out Archetypes to gain the advantage against enemies.

Changing the Archetypes that you have equipped on party members may also give you better chances to clear difficult battles during the main story.

Switching to a different Archetype allows you to gain access to certain skills that bosses are weak against or grant you resistances to endure the enemy’s powerful attacks that you would otherwise not be able to survive.

Lower the difficulty.

You can change the game difficulty at any time from the game’s settings if you find yourself stuck on a particular story encounter. There are no penalties for doing so.

Recommended for Farming MAG

Lowering the difficulty to Beginner is especially useful when farming Magla (MAG) as you will earn 1.5x the normal amount from battles on this mode without any consequences.
