Status Ailments List and Guide for Metaphor: ReFantazio
In Metaphor: ReFantazio, status ailments are divided into two types: Physical and Mental. Each ailment falls under one of these categories. Note that each character on the battlefield can be afflicted with both physical and mental status ailments at the same time.
Types of Status Ailments
Physical Status Ailments
Physical status ailments persist on affected characters even after the battle has ended. Use items that can cure physical status ailments after the battle to cure the afflicted characters.
Mental Status Ailments
Mental status ailments, on the other hand, will be automatically removed once the battle has ended. These status ailments can be cured by using items to treat them while in battle.
List of All Physical Status Ailments
Status Ailment | Effect |
---|---|
Poison | HP depletes every time you take an action. |
Paralysis | High chance of an action failing to occur after selecting it. |
Malady | Strength, Magic, Endurance, Agility, and Luck are greatly reduced. Additionally, HP and MP recovery effects are nullified, with recovery amounts becoming to 0. |
Hex | Half of any damage dealt is dealt to self as well. Additionally, while afflicted, resistance to Dark is greatly reduced, and susceptibility to status ailments is greatly increased. |
Burn | Additional damage is taken after being attacked. |
Frostbite | Attack damage is greatly reduced. |
List of All Mental Status Ailments
Status Ailment | Effect |
---|---|
Daze | Hit Rate for attacks is greatly reduced. |
Charm | Character will act on their own, attacking allies or assisting enemies. |
Forget | Character cannot use Archetype skills. |
Sleep | Character cannot take any actions, and any physical attacks suffered are always critical hits. |
Rage | Character has higher attack power, but damage from enemies is greatly increased. All actions become normal weapon attacks. |
Anxiety | An Ally-only ailment preventing the use of Archetype skills. If attacked while afflicted, the enemy will not consume a Turn Icon. |
Stun | An enemy-only ailment. They cannot act for one turn. |
How to Cure Status Ailments
Use recovery items.
Status ailments can be typically cured by using or consuming items that are specifically designed to treat them. Select an item and read its effects to determine if it cures the status ailment that your character is afflicted with.

Mental status ailments are removed after the battle.
If the battle is almost over, there’s no need to worry about mental status ailments affecting characters who won’t be taking another turn, since these status ailments will be automatically removed or cured after the battle. Therefore, if you’re on the verge of ending the battle and some characters are still afflicted with mental status ailments, it’s not necessary to cure them.
