Nintendo: No Guest Characters in DLC [Arms]

A DLC is in the works for Nintendo’s upcoming fighting game Arms on the Nintendo Switch. The company confirms that the update’s focus will be on new characters and stages, though only to include those existing within the world of Arms itself.

No Guest Characters in DLC, Says Nintendo

Unlike the massive Super Smash Bros. series of games , Arms will not likely include characters or stages outside the game’s interesting and colorful realm. This has been confirmed by the game’s producer Kosuke Yabuki during an interview with Game Informer. This means that players won’t be seeing characters like Mario, Kirby, Link or Mewtwo (much less Solid Snake or Cloud) with extendable limbs anytime soon in the game.

One character in particular was mentioned in the interview who’s quite popular among anime and manga fans around the world. But Mr. Yabuki was quick to point out that chances of that character making the cut for Arms‘ roster of playable characters is next to none.

“I guess now that you mention it, Luffy’s arms do extend huh? I didn’t really think of that. But unfortunately, the world of ‘Arms’ and the world that Luffy lives in are different worlds, so I don’t think he will be in this game.”

Despite this, it hasn’t been confirmed whether the Arms characters themselves will make guest appearances in other Nintendo titles. Nintendo’s Beta period of the game revealed that Ninjara, a shinobi-like character, was the most used character, and may be included in some upcoming titles by the company in the future. Of course, the most obvious one to include them would be the Super Smash Bros. games.

There’s much talk about the upcoming fighting game Arms and its announced Global Testpunch beta period, which ran in two periods. In North America, the game was launched for beta play on May 26-28 and June 2-4. It was May 27-28 and June 3-4 in Europe.
