Footage from the EDF: Iron Rain trailer confirms that the game will indeed be taking on an atmosphere more akin to titles such as Halo, Destiny and Titanfall. It can also be expected that there will at least be two playable characters in the game, as shown in the trailer where the protagonist (possibly the narrator) is joined by a squad of similarly-clad characters. In addition to the ant-like alien enemies in the game, there also seems to be what looks like the invaders’ version of the Walking Fortress or giant mech found in EDF 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair. Whether or not the mech was hijacked by the aliens or if it is a creation of their own remains to be seen. It was not explained in the EDF: Iron Rain trailer.
We also catch a glimpse of at least one available vehicle that can used in the game – something that resembles the Armored Grape in EDF 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair and EDF: 2025.
The EDF series is a long-running collection of third-person action shooting games with a sci-fi premise built around its namesake. Players must fight off hordes of alien invaders (commonly gigantic ant-like creatures) laying waste to human civilization. The franchise has spanned more than five titles, or at least eight without counting remakes and ports.
EDF: Iron Rain is expected to come out in 2018, though no specific details were given on the exact month or time of the year. Despite this, we’re really excited to experience the game in what the developers have dubbed “new territory” that the game will be exploring with the title’s design, story and gameplay elements.
