Chapter 1 – Banga Settlement
Gravity Rush 2 begins as two miners head down to the their assigned mining spot. On their way there, news breaks out of an impending gravity storm that will ravage the site. Despite this, the two miners head for their quarry, thinking that the mines will be all for themselves.
Prologue – In The Grey
You will gain control of a miner as you come down on the elevator to the mines. Follow the instructions on how to move your camera indicated at the bottom of the screen.
As soon come down to the mines, follow your partner deep into the mining site. Soon, your partner will stop at the mining spot. Approach the ore reserve to start gathering.
The gravity storm will then occur, knocking back both miners. They take their suits of and reveal themselves — it’s Kat and Syd! With no time to lose, make your way out of the mining site by following Syd. Be sure to jump over the gaps as you go along.
When you reach a dead end, Lisa will appear and give you a lift off the area. Cutscenes will be shown afterwards.
Banga Settlement
When you reach the Banga Settlement, you find that it looks like a post-apocalyptic tree house civilization. The Banga Settlement functions with giving each person a role, similar to an Ant Colony. Lisa, the head of Banga Settlement, instructs you to deliver messages to Misai and Cecie. She then scolds the girl for a bit especially when Kat is skeptical about her orders. Before she could insist, Lisa tells her to remember what she told her. This is where the quest starts.
Information on Misai
Once in control of Kat, head for the man across the bridge with a marker above him to ask about Misai’s whereabouts.
After talking to the man, you can open your map in the menu and check the next spot for information on Misai. To make things easier, mark it.
The marker will lead you to a woman. Talk to her to get more information about Misai.
The woman will tell you that Misai is at the mining boat. She’ll also remind you to get moving and repeats Lisa’s words to her: a lazy worker is a hungry worker. After that, head for the marker again and talk to Misai and afterwards talk to Cecie.
After that, approach Misai and a dialogue will ensue. When Kat starts talking to Misai, he greets her rudely and scoffs at her especially in regards to her “tall tales”. This annoys Kat especially when he mentions how he refuses to believe it even if Cecie does. With that, Cecie steps in and chides him to not be mean to Kat. After the squabble, Kat conveys the message from Lisa to Misai that the gravitational levels need to be checked. She also tells Cecie to check the livestock before preparing to head off. However, Misai gives her another job which is to tell the windmill boat crew to check the fuel supply. While Kat asks if it’s supposed to be his job, Misai dismisses her and tells her to do it.
After Misai rudely dismisses Kat, head down the stairs and make your way to the windmill boat.
Windmill Boat Fuelling
Follow the pathway and take the first bridge on the right. Cross over to the other side and continue your way through the platforms. When you make your way through, make a right and head up the stairs. The reading by now should be around 50 yards away.
Going through the Banga Settlement is similar to going through a treehouse. When you reach the bridge, cross the bridge and head up the stairs. After that, you’ll encounter one of the workers for the windmill boat. When Kat delivers the message, she also asks if Misai is always so up to. The worker tells you that it takes time but Misai will warm up to her eventually. With that, Kat finishes her chores and heads back to Lisa.
When she heads back to Lisa, she finds the woman scolding Cecie for losing the livestock. Realizing that it might cause a problem, Kat immediately steps in and tells Lisa she already did her work. This merits her a meal where she gets some bread while Cecie is left to cry in her lonesome. When Kat leaves, she thinks about what could possibly happen before returning to her bed in the chicken coop.
Episode 1 – Sad Angel
While Kat and Syd are sleeping, they are suddenly awakened by the slamming of the door. An old man breaks into their room and demands they get up, forcing the two out of bed. The old man is stricken with panic and asks them if they have seen Cecie. Apparently, she hadn’t gone home. With that, Syd and Kat agree to split up to find Cecie.
Head up the bridge to first ask Lisa where Cecie went. Coldly, the woman brushes Kat off. While looking for Cecie, make your way across the bridge and you’ll find a kid standing around. Talk to him and he’ll give you some information about Cecie. He asks if Kat will tell Lisa to which she promises she won’t. He then reveals her that Cecie goes to the gravel pit where the Gravity Storm first dropped her.
After Kat is done talking to him, rotate the camera a bit to the west. There, you’ll spot the Gravel Pit and notice a small silhouette of Cecie running across the plain. Head towards the shack and jump onto the mountain trail before running your way up.
When you reach the top of the plateau, Kat spots the hole where she remembers where she and Syd were also dropped. Make your way around the hole in the middle before making your way down the hill. From there, you’ll notice that you’re moving towards another mountain where you’ll have to watch your step. After all, you don’t have your gravity powers anymore. Jump over the ledge before making your way up the hill again.
Chase after Cecie and climb up the mountain until Nevi monsters come out. Dodge your way through the Nevi before reaching the Quest marker where you’ll have a cutscene. A gravity storm’s incoming and it looks big. The people of the Banga Settlement notice the Gravity Storm and begin asking for orders from Lisa. Syd demands to know where Kat and Cecie are only to be dismissed.
Once in control of Kat again, follow the railing and head up the mountrail. Keep jumping up the ledges until you reach a bush. There, jump over the ledge and land on the other side. After that, head up the railing and look for Cecie who’s hiding behind the rocks. A cutscene ensues where more Nevi monsters show up. Kat begins to wish that Dusty shows up only for the black cat to make his appearance.
With that, Kat begins her combat against the large monster. You enter a choreographed battle where you lure the monster away before finishing it off with a smashing strike. After the battle, you have a cutscene where Lisa scolds Cecie but thanks and apologizes to you. However, Kat finds out that Syd has been badly injured and that she has to pick up the slack for him. The door opens to reveal Syd on a stretcher with him saying hello.
The cutscene ends with Kat now dressed her Gravity User outfit. When she gets out, she decides to practice her skills and floats around. After that, fly towards the marker and you’ll find Cecie down below. Drop down to talk to Cecie and start a cutscene. Kat thanks Cecie for finding and caring for her cat while showing her new clothes.
Once in control again, float around towards the marker before hearing someone call you. There, rotate the camera and find the person who called you. Later, you find out that its Gawan who called you. He mentions how Kat looks good in her clothes and Kat mentions how she’s back to her old self again.
When you’re floating in mid-air, you’ll find Misai. Drop down to talk to Misai who just brushes you off.
After that, head back towards the Gravel Pit to practice your gravity skills. Since you have your gravity skills, float all the way to the Gravel Pit where you can begin practicing your skills.
You’ll be training a bit and have some tutorials on how to use her gravitational skills. These skills involve picking up Gravity orbs, landing on certain areas, floating towards the markers, and many others. After finishing your practice, Kat decides to go thank Syd. Follow the gravity gems floating in mid-air and collect the gravity gems heading back to Banga Settlement.
You’ll also learn how to adjust the motion sensor while flying. Drop back down to the platform where Gawan is and leap off to the other platform. From there, you can float up and find Syd sitting on a box where he was amusing women. There’s a cutscene with a dialogue between Kat and Syd. After that, Cecie shows up and tells Kat that Lisa needs her for something. Syd wishes her luck and that marks the end of Episode 1!
Episode 2 – Lonely Request
Banga Settlement
The episode starts with Lisa handing over a radio to Kat. She first asks if Kat needs a grav suit only to be reassured by the Gravity User that she only needs Dusty. Confident in her abilities, Lisa sends her off to begin mining. But this time, having access to her Gravity Shifting abilities.
First talk to Misai before beginning the mission. You’ll see Misai in a grav-suit who is clearly sceptical of what Kat is wearing. He scoffs and brushes off her abilities, telling Kat that he won’t save her if she gets hurt in the process. With that, they set off.
Mines
Enter the mines
Enter the cage that leads you down to the mines. When the lift lowers you down into the mines, the miners are in awe at Kat. Misai tells her not to strain herself while Kat reassures him that she’s fine. Misai decides to make a race out of mining the ore which Kat assures that she’ll bring back a lot of ore.
Before the mining starts, there’s going to be a tutorial that will teach you how. Unlike the other people who need blasters to break open the deposits, all you need to do is land a few blows to shatter the rocks open. Once you do, you’ll collect something known as Gems.
On your right side, there’ll be a lot of deposits so you can start shattering those. Land a few blows to crack them open to collect the gems lying inside the deposits. After that, Kat will get a call from people about a rock that they can’t break. With your gravity powers, that shouldn’t be a problem. Float up and head over to the wall before coming in down for a superhero landing to smash the ore open. A cutscene ensues with Misai just shaking his head before walking off.
After that, Kat gets a call on the radio. Being told a job well done, Kat’s then told to head to the other islands that they can’t handle.
Head deeper into the mines
Float up and move on to the next island. Go around the wall to find some ore deposits and shatter them with a few blows. After that, jump off the platform where the orbs were to find other deposits on the ground. Jump up and float up to the highest point of the island where you’ll find a similar deposit to the one you did a superhero landing on. You can either break it with a few kicks or float high up before shattering it with a stomping blow. Before you leave, make sure you clear all the deposits on that island. There are some deposits beneath the island and there are a few tucked away in the corners. After that, you can move onto the next island.
Upon moving to the next island, some people have already got them covered. With that, you can move onto the next island or farm a few gemstones before heading off.
Float upward and head to the higher islands from the island you were standing on. When you get there, break a few deposits until you get a distress call from one of the miners. Apparently, there are scarabs roaming the island. Head towards the island you left behind and squash them before they do any damage.
Squash the Scarabs, Save the Miners
Jump off the island and float all the way back to the island you hopped off. There, you’ll see some miners running away from Scarab monsters which prompts a tutorial. Defeat the Nevi Scarabs and collect the Vitality gems it drops. More appear in the sky and you’ll be taught how to hurl stones into the Nevi’s faces. After that, the miners congratulate her and you can move on to the next island.
Head deeper into the mining sight where you’ll find a few Nevi. Take them out and then loot all the ore from the island. After you loot all the ore, you’ll get a notification to head deeper into the mines to get some more ore. Fly directly north and follow the marker to pick up more ore on the next island.
Moving on to the next island, do what you did on the last island. Take out a few Nevi and loot all the ore again. Suddenly, Kat hears a cry for help and realizes that Misai’s in trouble. Rush over to the island and take out a few Nevi before encountering the big Nevi. It looks similar to an onion but a few smashes at the red core should do the trick. After taking them out, an even bigger Nevi comes out. To defeat it, keep away from its swinging arms and rush in for the kill when its done with its attack animation. Take out its cores while its stunned before finishing the mining quest and heading off.
Airship
After finishing off the Nevi, you’ll head back to the airship where Misai thanks you for saving him. Kat tells him it’s no problem and offers a rematch for the mining race until a large ship shaves their side. Misai mentions its a ship belonging to a man named Vogo. And according to the miner, he brings nothing but trouble. Lisa orders Misai to give them more speed, leaving Kat to contemplate on what Vogo’s like.
There, it will ensue a cutscene and shows that Lisa made a deal with Vogo. As he makes his demands, Kat intends to take him out until Vogo sends Fi to take out Kat. However, Syd shows up to grab the weapon thrown at Kat from Fi. Clearly disgusted, Vogo stalks off.
Banga Settlement
When you get back, Kat asks Misai about Vogo. Apparently, Vogo’s the merchant who sells their ore and he knows that Lisa needs him. Thus, it explains his holier-than-thou attitude towards them. Worse part is, the Banga Settlement is about to be penalized for that one bad ore. Despite that, Kat still gets paid much to her surprise. Misai tells her that it’s not much since it’s tight around there. Turns out the payment is for her and Syd.
However, the gem hunting now gives you a chance to power up Kat’s moves. There will be a tutorial that will help you power-up her skills. After that, talk to Misai. He says that things are only going to get worse from there and tells her to make sure Syd gets his share.
Conversation with Syd
After that, fly over to Syd where you’ll trigger a dialogue between the two. Kat tells him about the rumour about the rich mine deposits which Syd identifies as “The Forbidden Land”. Apparently, one has to pass the tablet trials to get there. He says he got the information while he was out of commission. He tells her that he picked up the information from Lisa’s study.
Head over to Lisa’s place which is near the duck pen. Click the quest marker and trigger the story where Lisa tells you about the Forbidden Land. Kat insists on making a trip there and she tells Lisa she’s not alone. When the door opens, it reveals Misai with some other miners. This then triggers to the next episode.
Episode 3 – Trials and Passage
Forbidden Land
The episode starts with Kat spiralling straight down into the Gravity Storm with her powers activated. She lands on one of the islands only to be disappointed with its disappearance. Since it’s not as terrifying as she thought it was, Kat decides to push through with finding some ore.
Find the tablet
Challenge 1: Defeat the enemies to reveal the path
With that, you have to find the first tablet. Float up and rush towards the island in front of you. When you get on the island, collect the Gravity Gem in front of you. After that, you find a stone tablet with pink writing on it. According to the tablet, it says there “defeat the enemies to reveal the path”. With that, it triggers a battle between Kat and the Nevi. Take out the Nevi and move on to the next island.
After defeating the Nevi, a pair of guiding hands will sprout out and bring out the next island. So, follow the hands onto the next island.
Challenge 2: Collect all the ore
The challenge is as simple as it sounds. Head around the island to pick up some ore. Drop down one level on the island and take out the Nevi guarding the ore. There’s also one of the bigger ore on top of the higher points of the island where you can farm out the gemstones.
Challenge 3: Defeat your enemies without shifting
Float over to the next island using the boost from the guiding hands. Once there, you’ll have to fight the flying enemies using the stasis fields. The stasis fields will pick up the debris lying on the ground which you can throw at your opponents. Here, you’ll also learn how to perform piercing throws which are based on your SP gauge. When using Piercing Throw, make sure to watch out for your SP energy gauge.
After pitching the rocks around and taking out your opponents, you can move on to the next island.
Challenge 4: Defeat the enemies and beware the mist
As the challenge says, the moment you get onto the island you’re going to have to fight. However, there’s a catch. The island will be moving up and down with the mist about to get you. You only have a finite moment when swirling around in the mist so, don’t stay there too long. Take out the enemies as fast as you can before moving onto the next island.
Challenge 5: Offer 7 spiny things
Use the gravitational stasis to pick some cacti and smash it against the tablet. With that, you can move on to the next round.
Challenge 6: Quickly defeat your enemies
In this case, you’ll have to defeat your enemies quickly. This is where you’ll have to use your special attack, Spiralling Claw. Use the Spiralling Claw to take out your enemies before smashing down the main boss.
Challenge 7: Mine all the ore before it sinks
You can either use your special ability to mine the ore or mine as many ores as you can. You only need thirty ores to mine. As much as possible, don’t try to float around too much or touch the mist. That way, you won’t have to restart the trial again.
Challenge 8: Make your escape
Here, you learn a new skill known as Gravity Slide. A tutorial for Gravity slide will flash up and it’ll teach you how to slide. You’ll have to jump over monsters and watch out for your gravity bar to make sure you can make your way all the way to the end.
After making your escape, you’ll find the last island where there’s a giant Nevi pretending to be a pile of ore.
Boss Fight: Giant Reaper Nevi
The Nevi will be flying around where you have to catch it. To take it out, I suggest using the Stasis Field and hurl rocks at it. It’ll deal significant damage especially when you land it on the cores. You can also use your special move for a quick finish. If you have Gravity Kicks, that’ll work too but it’ll be much slower.
After defeating the boss, you’ll find yourself in a cutscene with Vogo being increasingly angry about the ore.
Banga Settlement
Once you return to the settlement, you’ll receive a talisman meant to increase Kat’s HP. Equip that and she’ll sustain more in combat. When you’re done running through the tutorial about talismans, fly up and make your way to Lisa’s house where you’ll trigger a cutscene with Lisa and Cecie.
Episode 4 – A Dog Without a Collar
The next episode starts with Syd and Vogo making a deal. Apparently, Vogo weaselled it out of Misai that the ore was from The Forbidden Land. Because of this, they decided to make a wager. The game is a game of target striking. Race to 10 wins.
Target Game
For this match, your opponent here will be Fi, Vogo’s younger brother. Since you’re a gravity shifter, there’s no problem. When the match starts, fly around and knock down the targets as fast as you can. However, you’ll ultimately still lose. In the second and third round, the targets will start dropping by themselves. This forces Kat to miss and this allows Fi to win the next two rounds.
When the game ends, the Banga Settlement camp is disheartened. Kat believes she failed until Fi finds out that his brother had rigged the game. When he uses his whip to snag the device from his brother’s henchment and tests it, Fi realizes that there has been foul play. Upon hearing this, he refuses to participate and follow up with the bet. Instead, he insists that they play a game of B’oarack.
Boarack
In the game of Boarack, you’re supposed to defeat Fi and take his bell. While you’re trying to run around and grab the bell, drop his life pool down to the very end of the life bar. Be careful however, he gets stronger in every turn. Sometimes, he does jumping attacks that can deal damage. While he’s doing his attack animation, he has a good 2 second pause so you can lock in a combo attack. When his life bar drops, make sure you pick up the bells when they drop. While we’re not sure that he may not pick it up, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Like the former game, this match will last three rounds.
After you win your match, you’ll trigger a cutscene. You find out about the lives of Vogo and Fi when they were young. When he has a moment of realization, Vogo gives fair trading terms to Lisa and lets go of the issue. The leader of the Banga Settlement then begins setting up the airship. While you’re there, talk to Syd to trigger a dialogue between the two.
When the cutscene finishes, you leave the Banga Settlement behind and make your way to the ancient city. Congratulations! You’ve just finished Chapter 1: Banga Settlement!
