Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Game Overview

The Xeno franchise is a series of of science fiction video games first developed by SquareSoft for the Sony Playstation. A second entry to the series by Monolith Studio, though unrelated to the original game, was titled Xenosaga and was released for the Playstation 2. Lastly, the third generation in the franchise was titled Xenoblade and first launched for the Nintendo Wii U. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the third entry to the Xenoblade series and will be released on the Nintendo Switch.

The game will continue the franchise’ tradition of employing both science fiction and religious themes, as well as unique characters and the “xeno” symbolism. It is a sequel to the first Xenoblade Chronicles game.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2’s narrative focuses on protagonists Rex and Pyra, two friends in a quest to find the path to Elysium – humanity’s paradise. The game is set in a mysterious realm of clouds, with the terrain formed from the backs of gigantic beings known as Titans.

As a change of pace, Xenoblade Chronicles 2‘s characters will be designed using the chibi art style unlike those found in previous Xenoblade games. It has also been confirmed that characters from the Torna organization featured in the story have been designed by Tetsuya Nomura of Square Enix.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was first announced in January 2017 during Nintendo’s event revealing the Nintendo Switch hybrid console. It has also made an appearance in Nintendo’s E3 2017 panel, as well news of the game’s confirmed release date (late 2017).

On September 13, 2017, Nintendo released a trailer for Xenoblade Chornicles 2 during the Nintendo Direct event. Gameplay and story footage were revealed, including more new characters and factions in the game’s story. It has also been announced that the game will be offered in a limited edition copy. The package will include the game itself, as well as the game’s official artbook, soundtrack and a steelbook case.
