Best Party Setups for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (DQ3 Remake)
Best Party Setups for Early Game
Form the party at Luida’s Tavern
You can set up your party at Luida’s Tavern. Below are the party setups recommended for the early parts of the game.
Balanced
Hero | Warrior | Priest | Mage |
This party is registered at Luida’s Tavern and is suitable for beginners. The Warrior and Hero take the frontline, while the Mage provides support using spells. If anyone gets unhealthy, the Priest and Hero can use healing spells, making this party setup a very well-balanced composition.
Single healer + Steal ability
Hero | Warrior | Thief | Mage |
This party setup intentionally leaves the Priest out of the party, relying on the Hero’s “Heal” and “Herbs” for recovery. Surprisingly, the Hero’s healing abilities will be sufficient at this stage of the game. Additionally, there’s also a chance to steal items when the Thief is present in the active party.
Once you arrive at the Alltrades Abbey, transitioning either the Thief or Mage into a Sage will result in an exceptional party for the later parts of the game.
Growth-Focused
Hero | Thief | Gadabout | Mage |
This party’s firepower will significantly increase once you reach the Alltrades Abbey. In battles, including a Gadabout will lower the overall efficiency of the party, but other members are capable of carrying through the events and battles at this stage of the game.
Once job changes become accessible, promoting the Jester and Mage to Sages will greatly enhance the party’s overall power. This will allow the party to become a formidable force in combat, enabling you to smoothly win the battles in the future.
Best Party Setups for Mid Game to Late Game
Change jobs at the Alltrades Abbey
Once the Alltrades Abbey becomes accessible you will be able to change the jobs of your party members. Use the feature to create and form a new party setup.
All-Around
Hero | Warrior | Thief | Sage |
Promoting your Mage to a Sage is necessary for this party setup. This upgrade allows the use of both Priest and Mage spells, significantly enhancing the party’s stability. With this versatile party, you can charge through the battles confidently.
Double Sage
Hero | Thief | Sage | Sage |
This setup’s highlight is the two Sages in the party, which can be attained by using the Book of Enlightenment and promoting the Gadabout into a Sage. Although leveling up might become slower, the extensive range of spells available will make up for it. Additionally, the Thief could be swapped out for a Warrior or Martial Artist.
Best Post Game Party Setup
Requires a lot of grinding
This party is for players who want to enjoy and still play after completing Dragon Quest III. If you’re willing to invest in Seed and multiple job changes, this is the party to aim for.

Full Martial Artist Setup
Martial Artist | Martial Artist | Martial Artist | Martial Artist |
This party is for hardcore players who are willing to level up four Martial Artists to level 99, taking advantage of Dragon Quest III’s mechanics to achieve an overwhelming critical hit rate. Naturally, all members must have gone through Mage and Priest jobs to learn all spells before becoming Martial Artists. The sight of everyone landing consecutive critical hits is truly fun to play with.
