Day-Night Cycle Differences Guide for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (DQ3 Remake)
How does time pass in the game?
Explore the game world.
In Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (DQ3 Remake), moving to and from towns and exploring the world map will cause the time to go from morning to night. Note that stronger monsters tend to appear after dark so be cautious and try to avoid battles if you need to.
Rest at inns.
Staying at inns also progresses the time of day. This manual method of advancing the day cycle was not available in previous versions until much later in the game when you obtain a key item called the Night Light.
Gameplay Differences Based on the Time of Day
Some towns and NPCs change drastically depending on the time of day.
Depending on the time of day, the state of certain towns as well as the behavior of NPCs inhabiting them will change. Some story events, for example, can also be triggered only at night. Some key NPCs and obtainable items will even appear only at specific times within the day-night cycle.
Finally, most shops in the game are not open at night so be sure to do buy your equipment before they close shop.
Different monsters appear on the field based on the time of day.
As mentioned, more formidable enemy monsters tend to roam the fields at night. This is both good and bad depending on your intentions as taking down stronger foes allows you to earn more EXP and money in battle.
Some friendly monsters only show up during specific times of the day.
Monsters you can befriend and train for the Monster Arena also tend to appear only during the day or after dark. Because of this, try exploring various towns and fields at different times of the day to find and recruit these friendly monsters to your monster team.
