Monster Arena Guide and Rewards for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (DQ3 Remake)
Wbat is the Monster Arena?
Monster battling mini game found in various towns.
The Monster Arena is a monster battling mini game in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (DQ3 Remake) that you can access in the game’s various towns and villages. By assembling a team of monsters to battle rivals, you can climb the ranks to earn special rewards.
Build a team of 3 monsters.
The Monster Arena mini game lets you a form a team of up to three (3) friendly monsters you have recruited while adventuring.
Note that you cannot give specific instructions to each monster in your team during arena battles as with games like Pokemon. Instead, setting a primary “strategy” for each of your fighters to follow will affect the outcome of each match.
Because of this, you will need to frequently adapt your team’s approach based on the strengths and weaknesses of your roster and those of your opponent’s.
HP and MP do not recover between matches.
Each rank tournament in the Monster Arena consists of 3 to 4 battles held back-to-back. There will be no time to heal your team’s HP or recover MP. This means that it is generally a good idea to save your MP as much as possible, especially during the first round.
You earn rewards based on the tournament rank you cleared and your number of wins.
Useful rewards such as powerful equipment and Skill Seeds can be obtained for winning tournaments of specific ranks and for accumulating wins during your time in the arena.
Despite the Monster Arena only being an optional mini game, it is highly recommended to spend time climbing its ranks to earn all rewards you can that can help you on your adventure.
How to Recruit Friendly Monsters
Approach or help them.
A myriad of friendly monsters can be recruited all around the world of Dragon Quest 3 Remake. Some of these potential allies will only join you if you manage to approach them without being seen or heard. In these cases, you will have to approach these monsters without making a sound or using items to turn you invisible.

There are also some monsters who can be recruited to your team if you help them in their time of need.
The new Monster Wrangler job can approach most monsters without causing them to flee.
Having a Monster Wrangler character in your party allows you to walk towards friendly monsters without them looking to escape. In addition, the Monster Wrangler has access to a special skill that allows them to know the location of recruitable monsters in the game.
Some monsters can only be recruited at specific times of the day.
Certain friendly monsters only appear at specific times of the day so it is worth exploring various areas during the day or night to see if any of them show themselves for you to invite to join you.
Tips to Win in Monster Arena Battles
Experiment with different tactics if you cannot win.
One of the keys to winning monster arena matches is knowing which strategy to employ based on your monster party’s current state and the type of enemies you are up against. Below is a summary of each tactic you can command a monster to employ and how it affects their behavior in battle.
Tactic | Details |
---|---|
Show No Mercy | Spam powerful attack skills and spells without regard for MP. |
Fight Wisely | Create a balance between attack and healing. |
Focus on Healing | Prioritize healing and reviving. |
Don’t Use MP | Conserve MP by only using normal attacks. |
Reorganize your team.
You can also try switching out monsters if you find it hard to win against certain enemies in the Monster Arena. A good way to go about this is to assemble trio of monsters that have high resistance against enemy debuffs or can take advantage of your foe’s weaknesses in battle.
Progress through the main story to recruit more friendly monsters.
You may also find yourself stuck on certain ranks if the monsters available for you to recruit are too weak to take on current opposition. This means that you should focus on advancing through the main story to be able to invite stronger monsters to your team.
It is also possible to increase the power of your current monsters if you manage to befriend another monster from the same species. Doing so enhance a monster’s abilities, allowing them to fulfill their roles more effectively against tougher enemies.
Always bring a healer.
Since there is no way to recover HP between each match of a tournament, you should complete your team with a monster that has good healing skills. A party supported by a capable healer can spell the difference between victory in defeat, especially during very close battles.
