Orochi (1st Battle) Boss Guide for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (DQ3 Remake)
Orochi is a formidable opponent with high HP and multi-target attacks. With its fire-based attacks, it poses a significant threat to the entire party.
Orochi (1st Battle) Overview
HP | MP | Atk | Def | Agi |
---|---|---|---|---|
1,800 | 12 | 130 | 68 | 4 |
EXP | Gold | Drop | ||
2,080 | 0 | Orochi’s Sword |
Orochi (1st Battle) Moveset and Attack Patterns
Orochi primarily uses two types of attacks: Normal Attack and Blazing Flame. Note that even with some HP remaining, a single hit from Orochi’s critical strike can significantly reduce a character’s health.
Moveset | |
---|---|
Normal Attack | A standard single-target physical attack. |
Blazing Flame | Inflicts 30-50 fire damage on the entire party. This attack poses a significant threat due to its ability to damage all members simultaneously, potentially depleting your team’s vitality rapidly if not handled with caution. |
How to Beat Orochi (1st Battle)
Use Kabuff to mitigate Physical damage.
Although the Blazing Flame attack can’t be fully blocked by Kabuff, boosting your defense is still a solid approach. Kabuff will help reduce the damage of Orochi’s normal attacks, allowing you to preserve HP and better prepare for when the flames strike.
Use Sap and Oomph to increase the party’s damage to the boss.
Orochi’s high HP means you’ll want to maximize damage output. Fortunately, Sap works effectively to lower Orochi’s defense, making physical attacks inflict more damage. Casting Oomph on your main attackers (such as Warrior and Hero) will further amplify damage, allowing you to make more significant progress in each turn.
Prioritize healing party members.
Orochi’s Blazing Flame can damage your entire party; thus, healing from time-to-time is crucial in this boss battle. Since Orochi can take action twice per turn, it is wise to heal preemptively to avoid sudden knockouts. Use healing spells frequently to maintain a stable HP level across your team.
Prepare for a battle without the use of Insulatle.
Without the Insulatle spell to reduce fire damage, your party will take full damage from Blazing Flame. Be mindful of Orochi’s 1-2 actions and stay prepared for back-to-back Blazing Flames attacks. This can be challenging, so prioritize defensive and healing tactics.
Recommended Party Setup
A standard team of Hero, Warrior, Priest, and Mage is well-suited for this battle. Here’s a breakdown of each character’s role:
Character | Role |
---|---|
Hero | Main attacker with physical skills. Keep an eye on the party’s HP and assist with Heal healing if needed. |
Warrior | Primary damage dealer, cast Oomph spell to increase damage. Focus on attacking while relying on allies for healing. |
Priest | Cast Sap on Orochi to lower its defense, and manage HP with consistent healing. Make sure to keep the Priest alive, as they are crucial to the party’s survival against Orochi’s flames. |
Mage | Use Kabuff to boost your defense against Orochi’s physical attacks. Note that fire-based spells such as Frizz and Sizz are ineffective, so rely on supportive spells instead of offensive spells. |
