Alex Hunter’s Story in FIFA 17
FIFA 17’s The Journey is the game’s story mode, allowing players to follow the rise of aspiring pro footballer Alex Hunter as the narrative’s main character. You will need to take on the best players from around the world in the field, make crucial decisions in your career and strike an impression in the professional scene.
At the beginning of the story, Alex can choose from among different positions in the field. It may be tempting to choose Striker for all the heroics it demands, but you want Alex to be active in nearly all situations of the game. This is why it is generally a good idea to choose the Center Attacking Midfielder (CAM) so you can have opportunities of meeting certain objectives in the field through the course of the game.
Of course, there is always the danger of being a ball hog. While it is a must to have the ball at all times, you do not want to bring down the entire team for only one player to have his moments. This means that you should avoid forcing passes and overcalling, or always trying to take the shot even at bad angles.
During most of the off-field scenarios of The Journey, you will be treated to a hefty amount of dialogue with various people in Alex’s story. You can choose to answer certain remarks and questions from the characters of FIFA 17 and come off as cocky, reserved or something in between. Being loud and confronting does not seem like a good idea, but it actually excites fans and is more likely to get you more endorsement offers. The opposite is to be calm and well-mannered, which earns the most respect from your managers and officials. It is not advised to be lukewarm, as they do not have real benefit in triggering certain events in the story.
Eventually, you’ll need to decide which Premier League club to join. To make clearing objectives easier, it is recommended to join any of the strongest Premier League clubs. These are Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City. Having strong players to work with allows you to meet certain goals more reliably than if you did with the other clubs.
It is also important to note that choosing any of the strongest Premier Clubs will get Alex fewer minutes on the field. If you choose any of the other clubs (not in the strongest six), you will likely have more action, but with a smaller wage and little to no fans at all. The choice between a big Premier League club and a smaller one depends more on preference and how you want to experience the game. The former will likely get you more success (especially if you are new to the game) since you already have strong teammates, while the latter is for those seeking a bit more challenge and action in the game.
At some in The Journey, Alex will be put on loan and play for three other Championship teams, namely Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Norwich City. While it may seem like forever to try and be called back to your main club, you should make the most of the time by using the skill rooms to practice things that you naturally excel at already. Then, you can manually work on the new set pieces, the main focus being penalty kicks.
