FIFA 18 Nintendo Switch Missing Features Explained by EA Sports Producer

This page contains details about the reasons why the FIFA 18 NIntendo Switch version lacks several features found in other versions of the game.

Missing Features

The FIFA video game franchise is now making a return to Nintendo consoles through the FIFA 18 Nintendo Switch version.

Besides being on a Nintendo console, the Switch version also marks as one of the few portable FIFA games in recent memory. However, this version lacks several important features found in versions for other consoles, including The Journey story mode.

According to Andrei Lăzărescu (producer for EA sports) in a recent interview for Eurogamer:

“Every time we only have a year to do the game. You have to be very careful about the choices that we make and the features that we want to put in, because the date will not change. The date will not change in any way.”

Making a full-fledged version for the Nintendo Switch is a very hectic tasks for EA Sports to do since it does not run on the Frostbite engine, which is the engine used for the other versions. The Journey mode, according to EA, relies heavily on the Frostbite engine to capture facial expressions and emotions, which will be hard to translate for the custom engine built for the Switch.

FIFA 18 comes out on September 29 for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
