Strategy

  • Braum is an exceptional defensive support tank that protects his team and lane partner from ranged damage, as well as disabling enemies and initiating team fights. Make sure you land his (Q) Winter’s Bite on an opposing champion in order to start stacking its passive and potentially stunning the marked opponent.
  • Braum’s Concussive Blows (passive) can be inflicted on multiple enemy champions, as long as Braum gets to hit them with an auto attack or (Q) Winter’s Bite.
  • Braum’s (E) Unbreakable fully blocks the damage of the first ranged attack or projectile skill done by an enemy champion. This skill can also block some ultimates such as Caitlyn’s Ace in the Hole, Ezreal’s True Shot Barrage, Jinx’s Super Mecha Death Rocket!, Lucian’s The Culling, Sona’s Crescendo, etc.
  • While (E) Unbreakable is active, Braum gains additional movement speed. Use this to escape ganks or if are caught in a compromising position by the enemy team.
  • Remember to properly position (E) Unbreakable‘s direction. In order to maximize its protectiveness, cast (E) Unbreakable facing the enemy champions. This way, you can shield your teammates from the enemies’ projectiles and auto attacks effectively.
  • You can use Braum’s (W) Stand Behind Me on allied minions to avoid being punished should you miss your skills, when your lane gets ganked or to get back to position.
  • (R) Glacial Fissure can be used offensively or defensively – from starting team fights or locking down enemy champions who are out of position, to strategically casting it on a choke point or during team fights to help your team disengage and regroup.

Frozen Heart

Zeke’s Convergence – This item is a good option to build out of Aegis of the Legion. It provides bonus armor, magic resistance, mana and cooldown reduction, as well as an active item skill that causes a local frost storm for 10 seconds each time he casts (R) Glacial Fissure near his binded ally. As the storm rages, nearby enemies are slowed by 20% and your ally’s attacks burn their targets for 50% bonus magic damage over 2 seconds.

Zz’Rot Portal – This item provides good armor and magic resistance, as well as an active item skill that allows Braum to summon a portal that summons void spawns that prioritize turrets. This is a good option to consider if you feel that your team needs more lane pressure.

Randuin’s Omen – This item further bolsters Braum’s health and armor. Its active item skill also provides an area-of-effect slow that can either help your team reach and stick to high priority targets or escape unwanted team fights.

Frozen Heart – Frozen Heart provides mana and armor bonuses, as well as cooldown redcution. It also lowers the attack speed of enemy champions close to Braum.

Playing Against

  • Braum’s (E) Unbreakable can only block projectiles and ranged auto attacks at a certain direction. If he casts this skill, it is best to maneuver around the direction where (E) Unbreakable is facing, or to disengage and wait for it to dissipate.
  • Braum can be harassed by ranged auto attacks and skills. You can use your ranged skills to lure him into using his (E) Unbreakable earlier than he intends.
  • Braum provides decent harass damage against enemy champions who are hit with (Q) Winter’s Bite, as it inflicts a stack of Concussive Blows (passive) and a slow debuff that will make it easier for Braum and his lane partner to achieve the stacks needed to activate the stun. That said, it is best to hide behind your minion wave in order to avoid damage.
  • (W) Stand Behind Me bolsters an allied champion’s armor and magic resist Braum jumps into. It is best to displace Braum’s allied champion or Braum himself to lessen the likelihood of Braum buffs. If he manages to use (W) Stand Behind Me, you can opt to wait for the skill to dissipate.
  • Avoid clumping together as (R) Glacial Fissure can knock your entire team up leave your team vulnerable to damage.

Hard Counter

Morgana – Morgana’s Black Shield can effectively negate Braum’s (Q) Winter’s BiteConcussive Blows (passive) and (R) Glacial Fissure when she casts this on her allies. She can also root him with her Dark Binding, allowing her lane partner to deal damage.

Zyra – Zyra can root Braum and his lane partner with her Grasping Roots and follow it up with Strangle Thorns for further damage.

Karma – Karma can harass Braum with her Inner Flame or Soul Flare. If Braum initiates using (Q) Winter’s Bite, she can shield her lane partner with Inspire or Defiance, mitigating damage and allowing her partner to trade damage. Conversely, she can punish him for initiating by casting Focused Resolve or Renewal on him, rooting him in place while her lane partner deals him damage.
