Strategy
- Fizz is an Ability Power assassin who excels in eliminating single targets. Make sure to hit (R) Chum the Waters on the opposing team’s squishy carries to burst them down easily.
- (Q) Urchin Strike can hit multiple enemies and marking them with bleed damage once you have (W) Seastone Trident.
- Make the most out of Fizz’s skills to engage the enemy during your laning phase. Whittle down his health using (Q) Urchin Strike, followed by an auto attack, then cast (W) Seastone Trident for good damage, then wait for your skills to refresh and repeat the combo.
- Subsequently, you can also engage the enemy laner with (E) Playful / Trickster to deal initial burst damage, then follow up with your (Q) Urchin Strike + Auto attack + (W) Seastone Trident combo.
- Once you have (W) Seastone Trident, when you tag an enemy champion with an auto attack, wait until the mark reaches its full duration then hit them again with another auto attack that is empowered with (W) Seastone Trident for massive damage.
- Fizz’s (E) Playful / Trickster is a great skill to initiate a skirmish, close into a high-priority target and get away from enemies. Once you press (E) Playful, hover your landing spot onto enemies and cast (E) Trickster to deal good damage and slow them in the process.
- You can also avoid getting hit by enemy skillshots and abilities by pressing (E) Playful just before you get hit, then either pounce at the enemy or create space with (E) Trickster. You can also jump over small terrain using (E) Playful / Trickster to evade and outplay enemies in the jungle.

Lich Bane | Hextech Protobelt-01 | Zhonya’s Hourglass |
Lich Bane – Lich Bane ramps up Fizz’s burst damage, thanks to its passive skill that adds bonus Ability Power to Fizz’s auto attack after he casts a skill. Getting this item on Fizz is good since he usually leaps into an enemy with either (R) Chum the Waters or (E) Playful / Trickster and finishes with (W) Seastone Trident.
Hextech Protobelt-01 – Hextech Protobelt-01 gives Fizz an additional skill to close-in on enemy targets or to disengage when he gets focused by the opposing team. It gives decent health, Ability Power and cooldown reduction, allowing Fizz more instances of casting his skills and having some tankiness when he gets into the fray.
Zhonya’s Hourglass – Zhonya’s Hourglass is a standard defensive item for Fizz. It gives Fizz decent bonus Ability Power and Armor, as well as an active skill that puts Fizz in stasis, rendering him immune to all skills and damage for a short duration. This allows Fizz to survive when he is deep in the enemy team.

Lich Bane | Hextech Protobelt-01 | Rabadon’s Deathcap |
Morellonomicon | Zhonya’s Hourglass | Mercury’s Treads |
Rabadon’s Deathcap – Rabadon’s Deathcap is a standard item for mages who want to add more damage to their skills. This item gives significant bonus Ability Power to its wearer, and with Fizz, it increases his ability to burst down squishy targets.
Morellonomicon – Morellonomicon is a good item to get if the enemy team has strong heals and health regeneration. If you manage to whittle down their health to a certain percentage, their healing will be hindered significantly as long as you hit them with your skills.
Mercury’s Treads – Mercury’s Treads is a good boots upgrade if the enemy team likes to focus you down with crowd control skills. It gives magic resistance and reduces the duration of disabling skills by a good amount.

Banshee’s Veil | Liandry’s Torment | Sorcerer’s Shoes |
Void Staff |
Banshee’s Veil – Banshee’s Veil gives Fizz protection against one enemy skill. This allows Fizz to take the initial damage from mages who can burst him down such as LeBlanc, or one crowd control or disabling skills from opposing champions.
Liandry’s Torment – Liandry’s Torment gives Fizz additional magic penetration and Ability Power to help him shred through squishy targets. It also strengthens his (R) Chum the Waters and (E) Playful / Trickster thanks to the item’s passive skill that amplifies magic damage on enemies who have been slowed.
Sorcerer’s Shoes – This boots upgrade further gives Fizz’s skills more damage, as it adds more magic penetration. If you feel that you can quickly snipe down the enemy carries fast, you can opt to get this instead of Mercury’s Treads.
Void Staff – Void Staff is another good mage item for Fizz, as it gives good bonus Ability Power and magic penetration. This item further enables him to melt down squishy champions.
Playing Against
- Fizz is damage is reliant on him hitting (R) Chum the Waters on his target. Be on your toes when he casts it to avoid it; if you do get caught, distance yourself from your allies to lessen its area-of-effect damage.
- Though Fizz is a squishy champion, he is very elusive. During the laning phase, it is best to coordinate with your jungler and properly time your ganks. Force him to use his (E) Playful / Trickster early to prevent him from escaping your ganks. You can do this by focusing on him first before clashes.
- Fizz is susceptible to hard crowd control skills (i.e. Stuns, Roots, Taunts, etc.). Once you manage to disable him, he can easily be killed off.
- During the laning phase, it is best to keep your health high, as Fizz can burst you down with his skill combos.
Hard Counters
- Lissandra – Lissandra can counter Fizz’s (R) Chum the Waters by casting Frozen Tomb on herself just before she gets hit by the Shark. She can easily harass him with Ice Shard during the laning phase, and also root Fizz in place with Ring of Frost should he decide to dive her.
- Zed – Zed is a highly mobile assassin who can dodge Fizz’s skills and burst him down handily. He can time Death Mark with (R) Chum the Waters to avoid the bait and cut off a significant portion of Fizz’s damage output while burst him down with Razor Shuriken and Shadow Slash.
- Ryze – Ryze can lock Fizz down with Runic Prison, as well as harass him from afar with Overload. Fizz needs to hit (R) Chum the Waters and time his (E) Playful / Trickster well in order to have a chance against Ryze during the laning phase.
- Kayle – Kayle can save herself or her ally who is about to be bursted down with a well-timed Intervention. She can also harass Fizz from afar with Righteous Fury during the laning phase.
- LeBlanc – LeBlanc is an elusive burst mage assassin who can dodge Fizz’s skills and deal considerable damage at the same time. Once she gets her items, she can even burst him down if he is not careful.
