Strategy

  • You can use all your skills while (E) Counter Strike is active. This includes (Q) Leap Strike and (W) Empower.
  • Time your (W) Empower with every third consecutive attack to combine the damage with (R) Grandmaster’s Might.
  • A good combo to catch unsuspecting enemies from far away is to activate (Q) Leap Strike while (E) Counter Strike is active. Activate (E) Counter Strike again just when you are at the enemy to stun them.
  • You can jump on wards with (Q) Leap Strike.
  • Activate (R) Grandmaster’s Might before a team fight starts so that you won’t have a hard time activating it when you are already engaged in a fight. This skill reduces burst damage so in some cases it might be a good idea to activate it while recalling if the enemy has a global skill like Jinx’s Rocket or Karthus’ Requiem.

Titanic hydra icon  Trinity force icon Ninja tabi icon
Titanic Hydra Trinity Force Ninja Tabi

Titanic Hydra – Titanic Hydra provides Jax with damage, extra health, and health regeneration. Timing your (W) Empower with the active on this item can act as an autoattack reset and increase your damage greatly. Building this item along with Spirit Visage increases your damage output because of the health statistic.

Trinity Force – Trinity Force makes you an offensive juggernaut. The spellblade proc fits well with your kit. Trinity Force also grants you a lot of offensive and defensive stats. This item is a must for Jax.

Spirit Visage Guinsoo’s Rageblade  Ninja Tabi

Sterak’s Gage – Sterak’s Gage gives you 400 health and increases your base attack damage. What makes this item even better for Jax is the passive which grants him additional base attack damage and a decaying shield, making him a better at extended fights.

Guinsoo’s Rageblade –  This item can be a secret snowball item for Jax since (W) Empower and (R) Grandmaster’s Might scales well with ability power. The passive also increases his attack speed, ability power, and grants every other basic attacks on-hit effects, all these stats benefit Jax greatly.

Ravenous Hydra The Bloodthirster Guardian Angel
Blade of the Ruined King Icon  Infinity edge icon
Blade of the Ruined King Infinity Edge

Ravenous Hydra – This item is good if you opt to splitpush rather than take objectives and hunt down enemy champions. The extra damage and lifesteal increases Jax’s sustain and survivability.

The Bloodthirster – The Bloodthirster is good if the enemy has a lot of champions that excel at extended fights. It’s also a good pickup if you are confident in your team mates and that you won’t get hammered that fast in team fights.

Blade of the Ruined King – Get this if the you want to be more of a duelist-assassin type champion. Blade of the Ruined King increases your lifesteal, damage, and allows you to catch unsuspecting squishes with the active.

Infinity Edge – Infinity Edge is a very situational item because the kit of Jax already gives him a lot of options on dealing damage. Adding this item in your inventory may be a novelty, but it surely helps in some situations.

Playing Against

  • Avoid extended fights with Jax as he has a good 1v1 skill set with Relentless Assault and (R) Grandmaster’s Might.
  • Stun Jax or get away from him when he uses (E) Counter Strike since your auto attacks won’t do damage to him and you’ll get stunned if he activates it again or when the duration ends.
  • Always take note that after level 6 his third consecutive attack is always stronger. Jax can proc the first 2 attacks on minions and hit you with the last, so it’s better to zone him and maintain lane dominance if possible.
  • Build Thornmail, armor, and attack speed reduction items to reduce his damage output in the game. Jax heavily relies on auto-attacks, so these items will give Jax a hard time in contributing to the team fight

Hard Counters

  • Malphite – Malphite is made to counter Jax. Malphite can just use Ground Slam to decrease the attack speed of Jax by as much as 50%. Most Malphites also build full tank, negating most of the damage Jax deals.
  • Rammus – Rammus is good against any champions who rely on their auto attacks. The best example of this Jax. Rammus can just use Defensive Ball Curl to return some damage back to Jax. His Puncturing Taunt also makes him very vulnerable as it decreases him armor.
  • Dr. Mundo – Dr. Mundo needs to get close to his enemies to deal the most damage, someone that Jax is weak against. Mundo also has one of the best health regenerations in the game, making extended fights with him very hard. Burning Agony  can also deal continual damage to Jax when he is nearby.
