Strategy

  • LeBlanc specializes in disrupting the enemy team and eliminating single targets with her magic skills.
  • Be sure to lead your skill combo with (Q) Shatter Orb to increase your skills’ damage when you hit the enemy laner again. One of her standard magic skill combo is (Q) Shatter Orb + (E) Ethereal Chains + (W) Distortion.
  • She is also an extremely crafty champion who can outplay and out-maneuver enemies. Cast (R) Mimic then (W) Distortion to cover some initial distance. Then you can cast (W) Distortion again to double the distance you’ve traveled. As long as the cooldown persists, you can either press (R) Mimic or (W) Distortion to return to the location where you landed the skills.
  • Remember to cast (R) Mimic first before you cast another skill to have a copy of it for a short duration.
  • Casting (R) Mimic on itself will create a clone of yourself that will last longer than usual clones. Use this to fool your enemies into casting their skills on your clone.
  • You can (R) Mimic your (E) Ethereal Chains and cast it again on an already tethered champion to keep your enemy champion rooted.

Core Items
Hextech Gunblade Icon Morellonomicon icon
Hextech Gunblade Morellonomicon Void Staff

Hextech Gunblade – Due to her rework, she needs to set up her skills first before dealing the burst damage she is known for. As such, having Hextech Gunblade gives her the ability to trade with enemies and get lifesteal from her auto attacks and spell vamp from her single-target skills.

This item also works extremely well with (E) Ethereal Chains – once LeBlanc hits an enemy with (E) Ethereal Chains, casting the active skill of Hextech Gunblade will slow down tethered enemies, allowing the (E) Ethereal Chains‘ root to proc.

Morellonomicon – A standard item for mages, Morellonomicon gives LeBlanc good coverage against champions who have high health regeneration and lifesteal. Morellonomicon inflicts Grievous Wounds onto enemies who are low on health, and given that LeBlanc has high burst damage, she can whittle down opponents even further with this item.

Void Staff – Void Staff amplifies LeBlanc’s skills and burst potential. It gives her bonus Ability Power and increases her Magic Penetration against enemies.

Void Staff Lich Bane Rabadon’s Deathcap

Sorcerer’s Shoes – A standard boots upgrade for mages, Sorcerer’s Shoes gives LeBlanc’s skills more potency. It provides good magic penetration, as well as movement speed – two things that are crucial for LeBlanc to burst down opponents.

Lich Bane – Lich Bane further increases her single-target damage output. It provides good Ability Power and Movement Speed, as well as empowers her auto attack after casting a skill. Moreover, this item synergizes well with LeBlanc, as she needs to set up her skills first when unleashing her burst damage onto enemies.

Rabadon’s Deathcap – Rabadon’s Deathcap is another standard mage item. This item bolsters Leb’s Ability Power, allowing her to increase her proficiency in bursting down enemies with her skill combos.

Situational Items
Banshee's Veil Icon Ludens echo icon
Zhonya’s Hourglass Banshee’s Veil Luden’s Echo
Mejais stoulstealer icon
Mejai’s Soulstealer

Zhonya’s Hourglass – Zhonya’s Hourglass gives more coverage against enemies who deal high single-target damage. It provides good Ability Power and armor as well as an active skill that places her in stasis, rendering her immune to any damage and skills. During clashes or ganks, using the active skill of Zhonya’s Hourglass allows LeBlanc to assess whether she can escape or counteract opponents in the event that she is being focused on.

Banshee’s Veil – Another defensive item, Banshee’s Veil gives LeBlanc good Ability Power, cooldown reduction and magic resistance. More importantly, Banshee’s Veil covers LeBlanc with a protective spell shield that blocks the first damaging or crowd control skill casted on her. The blocked skill’s crowd control is negated by the shield.

Luden’s Echo – Luden’s Echo gives LeBlanc more pushing and farming power. Her rework enables her to clear minon waves, so long as she gets her Ability Power items early. With Luden’s Echo, she gets to farm better with her skills, and deal more damage in team fights.

Mejai’s Soulstealer – Any assassin AP  truly shines when she roams and ganks lanes for kills and assists. More advanced players get The Dark Seal early upgrade it to Mejai’s Soulstealer to greatly increase LeBlanc’s damage output. Since Mejai’s Soulstealer gives her bonus Ability Power from kills or assists, the bonus Ability Power she gets helps her snipe down squishy targets easier.

However, getting this item makes her a glass cannon – once she gets killed, she will lose her Ability Power stacks and runs the risk of tapering off significantly once the game goes the distance.

Playing Against

  • During the laning phase, it is best to stand behind your minion wave to avoid being hit with (E) Ethereal Chains.
  • When she catches you with her (E) Ethereal Chains, do your best to get away and break the tether to avoid being rooted and susceptible to more of her damaging skills.
  • LeBlanc is a highly mobile and elusive AP Assassin. Coordinate with your teammates to take her out, as she can burst down single targets and escape quickly.
  • Be cautious when she hits you with any of her skills – you will be marked with Sigil of Malice (passive), and LeBlanc’s subsequent damaging skills will deal more damage to you if you get hit again.
  • Watch out when she casts (W) Distortion – if you manage to hit her with a hard crowd control skill (i.e. Stun, Root, Taunt, Knock Up), you can punish her, as she is extremely squishy.
  • Take note when she uses her (R) Mimic – her clone still deals magic damage, but not as strong as the original. This is one way to determine if you’re hitting the real LeBlanc or her clone.

Hard Counter

  • Galio – Galio is proficient at dueling against mages. In-lane, Galio bullies enemies out of the lane with Winds of War and Justice Punch. Defensively, Galio tanks LeBlanc’s skills with Shield of Durand.
  • Morgana – Morgana’s Black Shield blocks LeBlanc’s damaging skills and negates (E) Ethereal Chains’ root. Moreover, Morgana is able to punish her engages with Dark Binding and Tormented Soil to deal massive damage.
  • Talon – Talon specializes in executing squishy champions. He is capable of bursting her down with his Noxian Diplomacy + auto attack + Rake combo. Furthermore, Talon has good chase down abilities with Assassin’s Path and Shadow Assault; a low-health LeBlanc needs to be careful, especially when Talon is nowhere to be found.
  • Syndra – Syndra specializes in ranged harass, especially in the laning phase. She is proficient in dealing damage while being behind the minion wave. This hinders Leb players who tend to lead in with (E) Ethereal Chains. Syndra is also proficient in punishing LeBlanc’s advances with her Dark Sphere + Scatter the Weak combo, which damages and stuns enemies hit. Unleashed Power also bursts down squishy champions like LeBlanc.
  • Annie – Annie has good defensive skills that makes LeBlanc think twice before engaging. She is capable of dealing ranged damage with Disintegrate and Incinerate. Her Pyromania also allows her skills to have an additional stun effect once Annie has five stacks. Summon: Tibbers also deals massive damage to squishy champions, especially for LeBlanc, since she is mostly played without defensive items.
