Pokemon GO: How to Pick Pokemons by CP/Moves

Introduction on how Pokemons learn moves in Pokemon GO and how to pick Pokemons by it’s moves and CP. Catch a high CP Pokemon that knows a good move to win gym battles.

How Do Pokemons Learn Moves?

You can’t teach moves to a Pokemon in Pokemon GO. They know moves from the beginning, and each individual pokemon knows different moves. Also, Pokemons which can evolve might learn a new move after evolving. Out of all the moves which a specific Pokemon can use, move 1 and move 2 will be picked randomly.

■Move 1
Move that doesn’t require a gauge. Though its firepower is low, they all have a fast rate of fire and can be used rapidly.

■Move 2
Strong move which consumes s gauge per use. It does have high firepower, but consumes a lot of gauge plus it takes time to perform the spell. For most of the moves, they are very powerful, but has a long trigger motion.

At present, there is no way to teach your Pokemon moves like the original Pokemon game.

How to Pick Pokemons

Since the moves for each Pokemon are chosen randomly, you will have to keep catching Pokemons until you find the right one. Also, since each Pokemons default CP is different, you will have to look fir a high CP Pokemon if your are going for the strongest. Therefore, you will have catch tens and hundreds of Pokemons just to find the right one. It is one of the reason why the game is addicting, but you will eventually have to find a point of compromise. Now the only way to pick Pokemons is to just catch and evolve them. There is an easy way to pick Pokemons in the original Pokemon game, but none of that exists in Pokemon GO. Try to catch Pokemons as efficiently as possible, look for high CP Pokemons and Pokemons that know your preferred move.
One thing you have to be careful is that the moves change after evolving. Even if the Pokemon knew a good move before, there is a chance of it learning a new move after evolving. It would be much easier to pick by catching Pokemons that has already evolved since there moves will no longer change. But sine evolved Pokemons are rare, try picking Pokemons like a Pidgey and Zubat when your trainer level is low. It’s true that Picking is for completists, but it might give you a lead over your rivals.
