Game Overview
The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki is the tenth installment to the long-running Trails series of role-playing games. The game continues the franchise character-driven narrative style and worldbuilding, with events taking place sometime after Trails of Cold Steel 4.
Story
The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki follows the story of three protagonists known as the liberator, the hero, and the hermit. Players will go through three different scenarios, taking control of a separate protagonist through the Cross Story feature.
The Day of Reindependence (Liberator)
The Day of Independence scenario follows the story of Lloyd Bannings, the liberator and leader of the Crossbell Police Department’s Special Support Section. The events occur during the liberation of the Crossbell state from the rule of the Erebonian Empire.
The Lost Symbol (Hero)
The Lost Symbol scenario details the exploits of Rean Schwarzer, the hero and a member of Thor’s Military Academy Class VIII after the defeat of the malevolent Deus Excellion Ishmelga that had spread a curse throughout mankind.
The Miserable Sinners (Hermit)
The Miserable Sinners scenario focuses on the actions of C, the hermit who appears as a masked individual and is named after the leader of a terrorist group known as the Imperial Liberation Front. C’s mission is to investigate the Imperial Defense force tasked with the security of the Imperial Family and Valflame palace.
Gameplay
The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki continues to adopt a traditional Japanese role-playing game style, allowing players to explore various towns and dungeons throughout the main story. Enemies are visible in the game world and can be attacked to initiated combat. Chests containing useful items and equipment are also found while exploring.
Combat is turn-based, with the player issuing specific commands to each character to move, attack, use abilities and items, and other actions.
Variant Age System
New to Hajimari no Kiseki’s combat system is the addition of a special mechanic called Variant Age. This allows the player to use a powerful attack when there are at least five characters in the party. Using Variant Age attacks can not only deal significant damage to enemies but will also restore HP and Brave Points (BP). The latter is used to issue Brave Orders to allies without taking up their turn.
