Conquering Sands Conquering Sands
(Target Range:720
, Cost: 70 Mana, Cooldown: 11/9.5/8/6.5/5 seconds)ACTIVE: sends all Sand Soldiers towards a location. Sand Soldiers deal 70/95/120/145/170 (+30% Ability Power) magic damage to enemies they pass through and apply a 25% slow for 1 second.Enemies hit by multiple Sand Soldiers will not take additional damage.
Arise Arise! 
(Target Range: 660, Cost: 40 Mana + 1 Sand Soldier, Cooldown: 1.5, Recharge Time: 10/9/8/7/6This character summons a Sand Soldier to attack nearby targets for him, replacing his basic attack against targets within the soldier’s range. Their attacks deal magic damage to enemies in a line. Arise! also passively grants attack speed to him and his Sand Soldiers. PASSIVE:  Azir gains an additional 20/30/40/50/60% attack speed for 5 seconds whenever he summons a soldier while he already has two on the field. ACTIVE: This character summons a Sand Soldier for 9 seconds. When he attacks an enemy in a soldier’s range, the soldier attacks instead of this character, dealing 0 (+60% Ability Power) magic damage to enemies in a line. If multiple soldiers strike the same target, each soldier after the first deals 25% damage. He can store up to {{ maxammo }} Sand Soldiers at a time. A new soldier becomes available every 8/7.5/7/6.5/6 seconds.Sand Soldiers can attack targets outside of his basic attack range.Sand Soldiers deactivate if they are too far away from Azir. Sand Soldiers expire twice as fast when near an enemy turret. 
Shifting Sands Shifting Sands 
(Target Range: 1100, Cost: 60 Mana, Cooldown: 19/18/17/16/15)ACTIVE: Azir dashes to one of his Sand Soldiers, damaging enemies. If he hits an enemy champion, he gains a shield.
Azir dashes to one of his Sand Soldiers, damaging enemies hit for 60/90/120/150/180 (+70% Ability Power) magic damage. He also gains a shield for 4 seconds that absorbs up to 80/120/160/200/240 (+0) damage.
Emperor's Divide Emperor’s Divide
(Target Range: 250, Cost: 100 Mana, Cooldown: 120/105/90)ACTIVE: Azir summons a wall of soldiers which charge forward, knocking back and damaging enemies.
Azir summons a wall of armored soldiers that charge forward, knocking back enemies and dealing 150/250/450 (+60% Ability Power) magic damage. The soldiers then remain as a wall for 3 seconds.Enemies will be stopped by Emperor’s Divide, even if they attempt to dash over the wall, but Azir and his allies can pass freely through it.Emperor’s Divide does not interact with Azir’s basic attacks or spells.

Strategy

  • Always have a back up sand soldier by saving one in (W) Arise! as it can give you a disengage tool if someone decides to gank you.
  • (R) Emperor’s Divide is a great skill to use when trying to break the enemy’s formation in a team fight. Your team mates can pass through the wall, so it is also a good defensive skill if you want to reset a team fight. You can also catch unsuspecting enemy carries by casting (R) Emperor’s Divide on them and sending them to your allies.
  • Your Sand Soldiers are also a good farming tool. Put them in the middle of a minion clash so you can farm while making sure your enemy laner has a hard time farming.
  • Take caution when using (E) Shifting Sands since it has a long cooldown and it is your only mobility tool. Use it only when you need to position yourself for a team fight or if you need to disengage and retreat.
  • Force team fights near your Disc of the Sun tower.

Sorcerer’s Shoes Nashor’s Tooth Rabadon’s Deathcap

Nashor’s Tooth – Nashor’s Tooth is a perfect item for Azir since he scales really well with attack speed and ability power. The additional cooldown reduction also makes him a very strong mid laner.

Rabadon’s Deathcap – Rabadon’s Deathcap increases Azir’s overall ability power. Moreover, this item gives him a huge power spike, especially if he is far ahead in the game.

Socerer’s Shoes –  Sorcerer’s Shoes increases Azir’s magic penetration, therefore increasing the effectiveness of his abilities.

Liandry’s Torment – This item gives the user health, ability power, and can deal a damage-over-time effect on Azir’s abilities. This item gives him flexibility and team fight presence, as it will make his abilities more painful. The extra health also benefits him since he is a very squishy champion, and one good initiation from the enemies might cost him his life.

Void Staff – Void Staff further increases his magic penetration. This item is great in the mid-late game when the enemy has built a lot of magic resistance items.

Rylai’s Crystal Scepter – Rylai’s Crystal Scepter’s passive works with Azir’s abilities. It adds a slow effect on his abilities, which works well with his soldiers.

 

Situational Items

Banshee’s Veil Morellonomicon

Banshee’s Veil – Banshee’s Veil increases Azir’s Survivability since it gives him magic resistance and a spell shield that can block an ability. This item is recommended if the enemy has a lot of crowd controls and you are always getting caught in stuns and initiations.

Morellonomicon – Morellonomicon can be a good substitute for Nashor’s Tooth if you want to have a very strong lane presence and pressure. This item also let’s you trade easily. The disadvantage is that it might fall off in the late game compared to Nashor’s Tooth.

Playing Against

  • Azir is very vulnerable in the laning phase. At level 1, his soldiers will be at a fixed position so you can easily kite them and harass Azir. Try to get in as much damage as you can while he doesn’t have all of his basic spells ready yet.
  • Never stand near his Sand Soldiers. Ever.
  • Starting a team fight near a fallen turret is not advisable since Azir can summon Shurima’s Legacy and deal a ton of damage on your team.
  • Stand in the middle to where he is dashing if you want to disrupt (E) Shifting Sands. Be careful though, because he deals damage and gains a shield when the skill is disrupted by a champion.
  • If he casts (Q) Conquering Sands behind you, chances are he will cast (R) Emperor’s Divide on you. Situations like these require you to take notice of where he places his sand soldiers, as it can give you an idea on his playstyle and his next move.

Hard Counters

  • Ziggs – Ziggs outdamages Azir in the laning phase because of his kit that is strong against champions without mobility. Furthermore, he can harass Azir with Bouncing Bomb and Hexplosive Minefield. 
  • Fizz – Fizz can jump through Azir’s Emperor Divide with Playful/Trickster. Fizz can also kill Azir easily if he successfully lands Chum the Waters even if Azir uses Shifting Sands. 
  • Syndra – Syndra is also a strong champion against Azir, as she can burst him down despite Azir’s defensive and disengage abilities. Unleashed Power can one-shot an Azir in one combo.
