Strategy

  • Rumble specializes in bullying his enemy lane and providing lane control. Use (Q) Flamespitter to deal area-of-effect magic damage to push out your opposing champion and farm your creeps at the same time.
  • Junkyard Titan (passive) bolsters Rumble’s dueling power against his lane opponent. Engage the enemy by spamming (Q) Flamespitter and (E) Electro Harpoon until you reach 100% Heat. Be cautious, though, as Rumble will be silenced when he is overheated.
  • Cast (W) Scrap Shield when you plan on engaging your opposing laner. (W) Scrap Shield can shield you against initial damage while you keep on dealing damage.
  • Casting (W) Scrap Shield gives Rumble a movement speed boost, allowing you to stick to enemies while you tag them with (E) Electro Harpoon and (Q) Flamespitter. The movement speed boost can also help you escape ganks.
  • (E) Electro Harpoon slows enemies it hits, and you can cast it again a second time for free. This lets you stick to enemies and hit with the full duration of (Q) Flamespitter. Conversely, you can also hit enemies with (E) Electro Harpoon to disengage ganks from enemy junglers.
  • (R) The Equalizer is an effective tool to give your team the advantage during team clashes. Cast it during a clash, specifically in choke points to disorient the enemy team and deal massive damage.

Core Items
Liandrys torment icon Void staff icon Zhonyas hourglass icon
Liandry’s Torment Void Staff Zhonya’s Hourglass

Liandry’s Torment – Liandry’s Torment is Rumble’s main damaging skill. It gives him good Ability Power, health and Magic Penetration. Moreover, this increases all of his damaging skills, especially (Q) Flamespitter, (E) Electro Harpoon and (R) The Equalizer.

Void Staff – Void Staff further increases Rumble’s damaging skills. It gives great bonus Ability Power and, more importantly, better Magic Penetration that ignores a percentage of enemies’ magic resistance.

Zhonya’s Hourglass – Rumble’s main defensive item, Zhonya’s Hourglass gives him good armor and bonus Ability Power. Furthermore, it has an active skill that renders him immune to crowd control. This is effective during clashes, wherein he casts (Q) Flamespitter and (R) The Equalizer, his two main damaging skills, to wreck the opposing team.

Void Staff Rabadon’s Deathcap Rylai’s Crystal Scepter

Sorcerer’s Boots – A standard boots upgrade for mages, Sorcerer’s Shoes is a good choice for Rumble. This is because he deals magic damage – Sorcerer’s Shoes grants him bonus magic penetration, therefore making his damaging skill deal even more damage against enemies.

Rabadon’s Deathcap – Since Rumble’s skills scale with Ability Power, getting Rabadon’s Deathcap further increases Rumble’s damage output. For example, Rumble’s (Q) Flamespitter and (R) The Equalizer can clear minions waves easily, and deals massive damage during clashes.

Rylai’s Crystal Scepter – Rylai’s Crystal Scepter is another good item for Rumble. It gives good health and Ability Power stats. Furthermore, it gives his damaging skills a slowing effect which ramps up their damage output, specifically (R) The Equalizer.

Situational Items
Banshee's Veil Icon Ninja tabi icon Mercurys treads icon
Banshee’s Veil Ninja Tabi Mercury’s Treads

Banshee’s Veil – Banshee’s Veil gives Rumble good defensive coverage against mages and crowd control. It gives good Ability Power, Magic Resistance and cooldown reduction. Furthermore, when active, it blocks one enemy skill, negating its damage and disable. This is useful especially when Rumble decides to engage with (Q) Flamespitter or (R) The Equalizer.

Ninja Tabi – Getting Ninja Tabi is a viable option for enemy teams that deal physical damage. It gives good armor and movement speed, and also reduces physical damage Rumble is dealt with by a portion.

Mercury’s Treads – Alternatively, you can get Mercury’s Treads to deal with team compositions with high crowd control. This boots upgrade has good magic resistance and movement stats, as well as it reduces the duration of disables.

Playing Against

  • Be attentive to Rumble’s heat meter – he gains bonus damage when he is in the danger zone, while he gets significant damage when he overheats.
  • Rumble is vulnerable when he overheats because he cannot cast skills. Use this  information to time ganks with your jungler to punish and potentially shut him down.
  • Rumble is reliant on getting his early items to get going. It is a good option to keep ganking his lane so that he won’t get significant farming advantage.
  • Avoid staying in front of Rumble when he activates his (Q) Flamespitter, as it can take a chunk out of your health.
  • Dodge (E) Electro Harpoon as much as you can so that you could avoid getting slowed.
  • Get out of Rumble’s (R) Equalizer as quickly as possible – it deals significant damage the longer you stay it is wake.

Hard Counter

  • Darius – Darius is a strong lane bully who is capable of whittling down Rumble’s health. For example, he can spam Decimate to damage Rumble. When he gets Rumble’s health to low levels, he can proceed to Apprehend him, hit him with Crippling Strike and Decimate. Finally, he can execute Rumble with Noxian Guillotine.
  • Yorick – Yorick is a bruiser who casts ghouls to damage Rumble in lane. Furthermore, his Dark Procession traps Rumble in an area, rendering his (Q) Flamespitter useless and leaving him susceptible to damage and ganks.
  • Jayce – Jayce is a transform champion who deals massive damage whether he is in his Cannon or Hammer stance. He can take a chunk out of Rumble’s health with Shock Blast at a safe distance. Likewise, Jayce can also throw down at close range with To the Skies! and Lightning Field.
  • Riven – Riven is another Top Lane bully who excels in being highly mobile and dealing massive damage against her opponent. She can whiz around the lane with Broken Wings, as well as shield herself from Rumble’s (Q) Flamespitter and (E) Electro Harpoon with Valor. Offensively, her Broken Wings empower her auto attacks, while Ki Burst deals burst physical damage. Once she gets him to low health, she then finishes him off with Blade of the Exile.
