Strategy

  • Coordinate with your teammates during ganks. She can dish out high damage with (Q) Twin Bite, (W) Burnout and (E) Flame Breath, but she needs his lane partner to hit hard crowd control skills on the enemy.
  • (W) Burnout grants a damaging aura and bonus movement speed, allowing her to catch up to enemies and deal damage. Use her basic attacks while this is active in order to prolong its duration.
  • Shyvana abilities can cast (Q) Twin Fang immediately after one of her auto attacks. (Q) Twin Fang also deals massive damage to opponents who are hit with (E) Flame Breath.
  • When ganking or before initiating clashes, it is best to have a full rage bar. This enables you to lead the charge with (R) Dragon’s Descent onto the enemy team, dealing damage and displacing them to your landing spot.
  • (R) Dragon’s Descent makes all of your skills deal area-of-effect damage during clashes. While in Dragon Form, (Q) Twin Fang becomes a cleaving attack, (W) Burnout increases its damaging aura and duration, and (E) Flame Breath can hit multiple enemies in a cone in front of you.
  • Fury of the Dragonborn (passive) lets her gain additional armor and magic resistance for each Dragon she and her team kills. Use this to your advantage in order to secure multiple Dragons and become tankier as the game progresses.

Skirmisher’s Sabre: Bloodrazor Enchantment Blade of the Ruined King Titanic Hydra

Skirmisher’s Sabre: Bloodrazor Enchantment – The Bloodrazor enchantment works wonders for Shyvana as it gives her on-hit effects that stacks well with (Q) Twin Bite. It also increases her attack speed therefore making her clear jungle creeps faster.

Blade of the Ruined King – Blade of the Ruined King allows you to stay close to your enemies. This item fits perfectly well with Bloodrazor as both items deal % health damage. This item also gives you more flexibility against tanky champions because of the active that can slow them while increasing your own movement speed.

Titanic Hydra – Titanic Hydra is also a great first item that can increase your wave clear and damage along with a burst damage in its active. Titanic Hydra should be built first after your jungle item as it is a huge power spike for Shyvana, considering the stats and the active ability.

Gargoyle Stoneplate Icom Blade of the Ruined King Icon Dead mans plate icon
Gargoyle Stoneplate Blade of the Ruined King Dead Man’s Plate

Gargoyle Stoneplate – Gargoyle Stoneplate gives her the necessary tankiness she needs when engaging enemies and initiating in team fights.

Dead Man’s Plate – Dead Man’s Plate increases the bulkiness of Shyvana, making her more tanky. This also gives her a movement speed passive which helps her traverse the jungle and gank lanes more easily.

Ninja Tabi – Ninja Tabi is a strong option as it gives basic attack damage reduction and armor. Shyvana is somewhat a kitable champion in the early game and this item allows her to soak more damage.

Stalker’s Blade: Cinderhulk Enchantment Thornmail Maw of Malmortius
Randuins omen icon
Randuin’s Omen

Stalker’s Blade: Cinderhulk Enchantment – Cinderhulk is also a good enchantment on Shyvana since it gives off health which compliments most of her items. It also adds bulk to her overall stats, making her survive more in skirmishes.

Thornmail – Get Thornmail if the enemy has a lot of physical damage and you are getting squished easily in team fights. This item is also the best option if the enemy ADC is extremely fed and you need something to counter that off.

Randuin’s Omen – Randuin’s Omen can be an alternative to Dead Man’s Plate if you want to have more team fight presence. The active allows you to slow multiple enemies around you, making them vulnerable to your team mates. Get this if the enemy has a lot of mobility that needs to be addressed.

Maw of Malmortius – Maw of Malmortius increases your resistance to enemies who have high magical damage compositions. This item also gives you damage and magic resistance which can help you offensively and defensively in the late game.

 Playing Against

  • Shyvana becomes a threat when she manages to stick to her opponents and use her damaging skills. It is best to thwart her advances by disabling her with Stuns, Slows, Roots, and Taunts to mitigate her impact.
  • She is relatively squishy and item dependent in the early game – coordinate with your team to invade her jungle and disrupt her gold and experience to set her back from getting her items, diminishing her effectiveness even more.
  • Be careful when she has a full rage bar, as she can cast (R) Dragon’s Descent and initiate a team fight.
  • Avoid being hit with her (E) Flame Breath, as it enhances her (Q) Twin Fang‘s damage should she manages to get near you or your team carries.
  • Keep away from her when she casts (W) Burnout, as it deals decent area-of-effect damage if you’re caught in its wake.
  • Do your best to secure most if not all the Dragons during the match to hinder Shyvana’s bonus armor and magic resistance.

Hard Counters

  • Olaf – Olaf is stronger the longer the fight is. Olaf can also use Vicious Strike and Reckless Swing to outdamage her even if she has more life than him. In disengages, Olaf can catch up to Shyvana with Ragnarok and Undertow.
  • Trundle – Like Olaf, Trundle is also a strong extended fights champion that can weaken Shyvana with his array of skills. Subjugate along with  Chomp can drain most of of her defensive and offensive stats, making her helpless and weak in team fights.
  • Pantheon – Pantheon is a very strong early game jungler that has the necessary abilities to give Shyvana a hard time. Spear Shot can harass Shyvana while Aegis of Zeonia and Heartseeker’s Strike allows him to create plays and openings as early as level three.
