Defending champions SK Telecom T1 (SKT T1) remains on top of group A after notching a 5-1 score while Cloud9 came in second with 3-3 to cement both teams for the quarterfinals of League of Legends Worlds 2017 in Wuhan, China.
The Korean powerhouse steamrolled almost all of their games, losing only to AHQ e-sports club in the first game of day eight. North America’s final hope, Cloud9, made it past through the second spot after having a good first week in the group stage. Despite a good run by both ahq e-Sports club and Edward Gaming in the second week, they did not qualify because of their sub-par performance last week.

AHQ Upsets Defending Champion SKT T1
ahq e-Sports club surprised everyone as they managed to not only defeat SKT, but also win it in a dominating fashion. AHQ An was too much for SKT, as his hyper carry Kog’Maw tallied a KDA record of 5/0/3.
Faker was only the bright star SKT with two of SKT’s only kills came from him.
AHQ started out strong as AHQ Westdoor got the first blood on SKT T1 Faker. It’s also worth noting that SKT had a hard time securing objectives. In the 35th minute mark, ahq sneaked a 2-0 trade in a team fight to kill Faker and Huni, eventually pushing further to SKT’s Nexus.
This was the only loss of SK Telecom T1 in the group stage.
Cloud9 To Represent North America, Again
Cloud9 once again is the sole representative of North America after Team SoloMid and Immortals failed to qualify for the quarterfinals.
They were dominant in the first week of the group stage, tallying a 2-1 record to get them in second place before SK Telecom T1. The second week was different as they lost twice to Edward Gaming and SK Telecom T1. This opened the door to AHQ and Edward Gaming to have three-way tiebreaker.
Cloud9 managed to put the final nail in the coffin for AHQ after defeating them in less than 25 minutes. SK Telecom T1 also prevented Edward Gaming from having a tiebreaker with Cloud9 after defeating EDG in a gruelling 38 minutes match that almost went in the way for EDG.
