Players can use the left joy con to control Cereza who can cast Umbran magic to immobilize or weaken enemies. Cheshire, meanwhile, can perform powerful demonic attacks and is operated using the right joy con.

Bayonetta Origins adopts colorful cel-shaded graphics which give the game a storybook fairy-tale vibe. The game’s visual departure from earlier entries in the franchise is obviously intended to enhance the storybook feel of Cereza and Cheshire’s adventure.
