Strategy

  • Cassiopeia’s skill set is great for harassing. Use all her abilities to keep your enemies away from the minion wave.
  • She has very low mobility. While her passive skill Serpentine Grace gives her movement speed, it also hinders her from buying any type of boots. To counter this, make sure that you always have your lane warded to avoid being ganked.
  • (Q) Noxious Blast has a slight delay so use this while your enemy champion is stationary (usually when last-hitting a minion). Noxious Blast doesn’t reveal Cassiopeia when she’s in the brush so use this to your advantage. On the other hand, you can use this skill to check the brush. If a buff icon appears then an enemy was hit and is hiding there.
  • When chasing or fleeing from an opponent, use your (Q) Noxious Blast on an enemy champion to increase your movement speed and (W) Miasma to slow them down.
  • (W) Miasma also works well in clearing down minion waves.
  • (E) Twin Fang deals heavy damage when the target is poisoned. It also has extremely low cooldown rates but deals heavy damage so don’t be afraid to spam this skill, especially if the target is affected by poison.
  • Your (R) Petrifying Gaze can stun a number of enemies, but they need to face you directly. As such, be sure to use this during a team fight when they’re bunched up together. However, don’t be afraid to use this skill when being ganked.
  • Cassiopeia can win a 2v1 fight if her Ultimate stuns both enemy champions. Once stunned, you should burst down the weaker enemy so it becomes a 1v1.

Core Items

Rod of Ages Zhonya’s Hourglass Morellonomicon

Rod of Ages – Rod of Ages is an excellent item for Cassiopeia. Since she is a relatively squishy champion, getting Road of Ages helps her bolster her health, mana and Ability Power for the duration of the game.

Zhonya’s Hourglass – One of the standard defensive items for mages, Zhonya’s Hourglass gives good Ability Power and some armor stats. It also has a very useful active item skill that puts Cassiopeia in stasis, rendering her immune to any skills for a short duration.

Morellonomicon – A great item that synergizes well with Cassiopeia’s skills. Morellonomicon gives her skills an additional Grievous Wounds debuff when she hits enemy champions who are low on health with her skills to lessen the effectiveness of heals and lifesteal.

Rabadon’s Deathcap Rylai’s Crystal Scepter Liandry’s Torment

Rabadon’s Deathcap – A standard Mage item, Rabadon’s Deathcap significantly increases Cassiopeia’s Ability Power, making her skills even more potent during clashes and duels.

Rylai’s Crystal Scepter – Getting Cassiopeia this item imbues her skills with a slowing debuff that increases the chances of picking off enemy champions who get hit with her skills.

Liandry’s Torment – Liandry’s Torment synergizes well with Rylai’s Crystal Scepter and Cassiopeia’s skills. This item deals massive damage to enemies who are slowed and are hit by Cass’ damaging skills.

Situational Items
Void staff icon Mejais stoulstealer icon
Banshee’s Veil Void Staff Mejai’s Soulstealer

Archangel’s Staff/Seraph’s Embrace

Banshee’s Veil – Another staple defensive mage item, Banshee’s Veil works well against enemies who tend to hit you with crowd control skills. It also gives good Ability Power and magic resistance.

Void Staff – Getting this item ramps up your damaging skills’ power. Void Staff grants Cassiopeia good magic penetration against enemy champions, as well as bonus Ability Power.

Mejai’s Soulstealer – If a more offensive-minded player, you can opt ot run with Mejai’s Soulstealer. It gives great bonus Ability Power for every kill and assist you get, but if you get killed, you lose half of the stacks.

Archangel’s Staff/Seraph’s Embrace – Another good mage item for spammers, Archangel’s Staff gives its user bonus mana regen and maximum mana each time its user casts a skill. Since Cassiopeia is known to spam her skills, getting this to deal with her mana regeneration problems is a nice touch.

Playing Against

  • Be wary of Cassiopeia’s burst damage while poisoned and will spam (E) Twin Fang if you get hit with her (Q) Noxious Blast.
  • If you think that she’s going to cast her (R) Petrifying Gaze, turn around. It’s better to be slowed than stunned.
  • Cassiopeia can hyper carry a game, especially when thoroughly fed. You can avoid this by ganking early and as much as you can.
  • She is a skill-based champ and is mana-hungry. Use this to your advantage by baiting her to use as much skills as possible. Be aggressive once you see her mana drop.
  • Just like other mages, she is very squishy and prone to burst damage. Her skills require great positioning to hit. While she is positioning, you can try to land as much skills as you can and burst her down.
  • Cassiopeia is very prone to ganks as she has no escaping abilities.

Hard Counters

  • Galio – Galio is exceptionally tanky and effective against mages. For instance, his Shield of Durand helps him tank most of Cassiopeia’s skills. Moreover, he can also dish out damage with his Winds of War and Justice Punch to stick close to her.
  • Diana – Diana is a burst mage who tends to get close to enemies to deal massive damage. Furthermore, she is surprisingly tanky and can close the distance to shot down squishy targets such as Cassiopeia.
  • Talon – Talon is a Physical Attack assassin who can quickly get into Cassiopeia, execute his damaging combo, then get out before Cassiopeia knew what hit her.
  • LeBlanc – LeBlanc is a highly mobile champion who can easily dodge Cassiopeia’s skills. After she dodges Cass’ skills, she can then turn the table and punish Cassiopeia by executing her with her high burst damage.
