  • ACTIVE: This character dashes forward gaining an Armor and Magic Resist boost for several seconds. If Graves dashes towards an enemy champion, gain two stacks of True Grit instead. Hitting enemies with basic attacks lowers the cooldown of this skill and refreshes the resistance boost.
  •  Dashes in a direction, reloading one shell. Graves gains True Grit for 4 seconds. If Graves dashes towards an enemy champion, gain two stacks of True Grit instead. Basic attack hits lower the cooldown of Quickdraw by 0.5 seconds and, against non-minions, also refresh True Grit.True Grit grants 5/7.5/10/12.5/15 Armor and Magic Resist (stacks up to 8 times).

Strategy

Jungle

  • Farm your jungle as fast as you can to quickly help the other lanes. Once you get all of your basic skills, you are all set up to help the other lanes and gank the enemy champions your allies are facing. Keep tabs on your minimap by glancing from time to time if your allies require help.
  • You might just waste your time trying to gank an opponent when he’s near his turret so be wise when trying to help lanes as you’d rather farm the time wasted in waiting for a gank that’s not coming.
  • You can use your (E) Quickdraw to lessen the damage you take from the jungle monsters so you can avoid their auto attacks and attack from a distance.
  • Your (Q) End of the Line bounces back to where it was initially casted but will instantly return once used against wall. Try to use it against walls to quickly burst the target or if not possible, try to use it to an angle that will hit the enemy again once it comes back.
  • Since Graves can quickly clear jungling camps, try to observe the enemy jungler’s position around the map. If he’s far from where you’re planning to counterjungle, try to steal his jungle camps as fast as possible.
  • Although your (E) Quickdraw functions as an offensive ability to close your distance between enemy champions, you should always still try to save this as being potentially targeted by enemy champions will result to your death if it is on cooldown.
  • Position yourself in teamfights as you deal massive AOE damage if you can freely use your abilities. More importantly, try to target squishy champions and quickly delete them to lessen their impact to the teamfight by not allowing them a single ability to cast or limit it to a few.

Skirmisher's sabre - warrior icon the black cleaver icon
Berserker’s Greaves Skirmisher’s Sabre – Warrior The Black Cleaver

Skirmisher’s Sabre: Warrior – Skirmisher’s Sabre is the best item for Graves since it gives him damage reduction and true damage on his basic attacks, making him a great duelist and counter-jungler. The warrior enchantment also increases damage and cooldown reduction.

The Black Cleaver – The Black Cleaver passive can proc multiple times in one basic attack Graves, making the armor reduction of your basic attacks much stronger. Furthermore, the rage passive can also make him a great kiter, especially in the later stages of the game.

Berserker’s Greaves – Building Berserker’s Greaves early allows him to gank more easily since he doesn’t have any stuns and the only option that he has is that he needs to stay close to the enemies in order to deal damage. The early movement speed increase gives him the ability to have more successful ganks in other lanes.

deaths dance icon Phantom dancer icon
Death’s Dance Sterak’s Gage Phantom Dancer

Death’s Dance – Death’s Dance is a good lifesteal item for Graves as it grants him the ability to soak a lot of damage because of the passive. In addition to this, this item gives good attack damage and cooldown reduction stats.

Sterak’s Gage – Sterak’s Gage lets you be aggressive as a jungler while surviving longer in team fights because of the damage reduction on his passive. Moreover, the item also gives health and base damage which are good stats for Graves.

Phantom Dancer – Phantom Dancer makes him a very great duelist since it increases his damage reduction if paired with Skirmisher’s Sabre. It also provides him a great kiting ability with the passive, along with the critical damage increase.

Situational Items

Situational Items
Maw of malmoritus icon Lord dominiks regards iconMortal Reminder Icon
Maw of Malmortius The Bloodthirster Lord Dominik’s Regards/Mortal Reminder

Maw of Malmortius – Since Graves is a squishy champion that is vulnerable to high damage and bursts, Maw of Malmortius is an important item for him. It gives him a shield that soaks a lot of magic damage, increasing his survivability against AP champions who can one shot him.

The Bloodthirster – The Bloodthirster is another good lifesteal for Graves, as it gives him immense lifesteal and damage. This is a very aggressive item and it may also sacrifice some of the defensive stats that Graves might need especially if he is always caught in team fights.

Lord Dominik’s Regards/Mortal Reminder – Build Lord Dominik’s Regards if the enemy has a lot of champions with armor. Otherwise, build Mortal Reminder if the majority of the enemy team’s composition have a lot of health and regeneration.

Playing Against

  • Although his (W) Smokescreen greatly reduces your vision, just simply stepping out of it will get rid of the fog of war.
  • Graves’ auto attack has low range which you can use to your advantage by pressuring him to fight in close combats or enemies with longer range than him.
  • Try focusing on him when he is reloading his shotgun as he can’t auto-attack while his passive is down. Try to bait him first on using his auto attack 2x + (E) Quickdraw + auto attack + (Q) End of the line before going all-in.

Hard Counter

  • Yasuo – Yasuo can block most of Graves’ abilities with Windwall as most of them are projectiles, making Graves useless in team fights. Furthermore, Yasuo is highly elusive and can out-maneuver Graves during duels.
  • Braum Braum also has the ability to block the abilities of Graves with (E) Unbreakable. Moreover, he is capable of slowing down and stunning Graves with Concussive Blows (passive).
