Strategy
- Heimerdinger shines best when he manages to control his lane by zoning out his lane opponents and farming properly for his items with his (Q) H-28G Evolution Turrets. Try placing your turrets in key areas within your lane to maximize their damage output and zoning potential, as well as thwart any conventional ganking attempts.
- Place multiple (Q) H-28G Evolution Turrets near enemy turrets, as they can attack it and provide further lane pressure.
- You can place multiple (Q) H-28G Evolution Turrets in brushes to combo with your (W) Hextech Micro-Rockets and (E) CH-2 Electron Storm Grenade and surprise unwary enemy champions crossing your turrets’ path.
- (W) Hextech Micro-Rockets deal more damage when you focus the spray arch in one direction. Use this on enemy champions to deal the killing blow during clashes or skirmishes.
- Do your best to hit high priority targets with Heimerdinger’s (E) CH-2 Electron Storm Grenade to either slow them down or stun them by hitting them in the grenade’s center.
- Choose what skill you’ll empower once you’ve activated (R) UPGRADE!!! during clashes:
- An empowered (Q) H-28G Evolution Turret provides excellent damage to enemies in a line, and synergizes well with your other turrets’ damage
- An upgraded (W) Hextech Micro-Rockets significantly bolsters its potency and chances of eliminating single targets
- An empowered (E) CH-2 Electron Storm Grenade will have a bouncing effect, stunning multiple enemy champions it hits in the center. This is an excellent skill to use during team fights as it can disable many opponents.

Flash | Exhaust |
Exhaust – a good alternative to Teleport, Exhaust synergizes well with Heimerdinger’s skills, especially his turrets. He can duel with his lane opponent and catch them off-guard with a well-timed Exhaust while they are within his turrets’ firing range.
Item Builds
Starter Items | ||
---|---|---|
Doran’s Ring | Total Biscuit of Rejuvenation x2 | Warding Totem |
Core Items | ||
---|---|---|
Morellonomicon | Zhonya’s Hourglass | Void Staff |
Morellonomicon – Morellonomicon makes Heimerdinger’s damaging skills inflict Grievous Wounds to enemies. It gives decent cooldown reduction, Ability Power and replenishes a portion of its user’s mana for every kill or assist
Zhonya’s Hourglass – Zhonya’s Hourglass is a standard defensive item for most mages. In the case of Heimerdinger, this item gives him bonus armor and Ability Power up to a cap, and importantly, an active item skill that puts him in stasis, rendering him immune to all skills.
Void Staff – Void Staff increases the potency of Heimerdinger’s skills. This item gives good Ability Power and magic penetration stats.

---|---|---|
Morellonomicon | Sorcerer’s Shoes | Zhonya’s Hourglass |
Void Staff | Liandry’s Torment | Rylai’s Crystal Scepter |
Sorcerer’s Shoes – Heimerdinger’s standard boots upgrade, Sorcerer’s Shoes gives him decent magic penetration and movement speed. This item good when you’re saving up for Void Staff.
Liandry’s Torment – Liandry’s Torment synergizes well with Heimerdinger’s (E) CH-2 Electron Storm Grenade, especially when you manage to hit opponent right smack in the middle. The skill’s slow and stun procs Liandry’s Torment’s damage-over-time. Moreover, it also works on (Q) H-28G Evolution Turret – their projectiles will deal Liandry’s Torment’s passive when they hit enemies who are stunned or slowed.
Rylai’s Crystal Scepter – Getting Rylai’s Crystal Scepter makes Heimerdinger’s skills to have an added slow whenever they hit enemies. This works well when you get Liandry’s Torment – the slow from Rylai’s Crystal Scepter ensures you’ll get even more damage from Liandry’s Torment’s item passive.
Situational Items | ||

Banshee’s Veil | Rabadon’s Deathcap | Mejai’s Soulstealer |
Banshee’s Veil – Another good defensive item for Heimerdinger, Banshee’s Veil gives good Ability Power and magic resistance. It also has a spell shield that blocks the first enemy skill that targets Heimerdinger.
Rabadon’s Deathcap – Rabadon’s Deathcap significantly increases Heimerdinger’s Ability Power. This makes his damaging skills even more potent against enemies.
Mejai’s Soulstealer – For the more offensive-minded players, they can opt to get Mejai’s Soulstealer. This item gives its user bonus Ability Power for every kill and assist, up to 25 stacks. However, when its user dies, he or she loses a significant number of stacks.
Playing Against
- Keep away from Heimerdinger’s (Q) H-28G Evolution Turrets, as they can deal massive damage the longer you stay near their firing range.
- If possible, try to target Heimerdinger’s turrets first, as it will diminish his damage output significantly once his turrets are decommissioned. They are susceptible to long range pokes and skills.
- Stand behind your minion wave in order to avoid being hit with one ore more of Heimerdinger’s (W) Hextech Micro-Rockets.
- You can block the trajectory of Heimerdinger’s (W) Hextech Micro-Rockets to help your low-health allies escape, but be prepared to take damage, especially when Heimerdinger has already farmed his core items.
- Do not stick close together during clashes with an enemy Heimerdinger. He can empower his (E) CH-2 Electron Storm Grenade to slow and potentially stun your entire team.
- Heimerdinger is a squishy champion who relies on his abilities to zone out enemies. He is easily picked off once he has used all of his skills. Furthermore, if you manage to get close to him and avoid his skills, he can be dealt with easily.
Hard Counter
- Syndra – Syndra excels at long-range harass during the laning phase, only going close when going for the kill with Unleashed Power. She can also displace Heimerdinger’s (Q) H-28G Evolution Turrets with Force of Will and hurl it to him for damage.
- Orianna – Orianna also relies on long-range pokes when dealing damage during the laning phase, thanks to Command: Attack, Command: Dissonance and Command: Shockwave. If she finds herself in firing range of Heimerdinger’s turrets, she can cast Command: Protect on herself and return to a safe distance.
- Ziggs – Ziggs has a relatively safe laning phase, often staying behind his minion wave while he chucks Bouncing Bomb, Hexplosive Minefield and Mega Inferno Bomb onto Heimerdinger and his turrets. When ge gets caught in too deep in Heimerdinger’s Turrets, he can displace them and escape with his Satchel Charge.
- Lux – Lux out-ranges and out-pokes Heimerdinger thanks to her Light Binding, Lucent Singularity and Final Spark. These skills can damage Heimerdinger’s turrets – she can use the turrets to ensnare Heimerdinger with Light Binding if he is often near them.
- Xerath – Xerath’s Arcanopulse and Eye of Destruction can destroy Heimerdinger’s turrets and provide lane harassment at a relatively safe range. For instance, if Heimerdinger decides to engage, Xerath can stun him with Shocking Orb. Should Heimerdinger try to escape, Xerath can follow up with Rite of the Arcane to finish him off.
