Strategy

Jungle

  • Use (W) Burrow whenever you need to regenerate your health. Being burrowed allows her to regenerate her health while draining her fury and being un-burrowed allows her to recharge her fury.
  • (W) Burrow activates your Tremor Sense. This is useful when you want to determine where enemies are in the map without risking face-checks in bushes.
  • Tag enemies with (Q) Prey Seeker to get a better vision of them when you’re ganking or during clashes.
  • Rek’Sai is very mobile and being a mobile jungler is very helpful. You can easily gank and help other lanes, go to different camps and clear the jungle monsters quickly.
  • Her basic combo is (W) Burrow + (Q) Prey Seeker onto an enemy. Afterwards, knock them up with (W) Unburrow + (Q) Queen’s Wrath and finish them off with (R) Void Rush.
  • Be careful when rushing in with your (E) Tunnel. Although you can easily close gaps between your enemies using your tunnel, you might get punished by this if you dived in without waiting for your allies. Keep in mind that you are very mobile which is good when you are chasing single enemy champions but diving in team fights would prove reckless resulting to your very premature death.

Skirmisher’s Sabre: Warrior Knight’s Vow The Black Cleaver

Skirmisher’s Sabre: Warrior – This item helps Rek’Sai clear his jungle faster, as well as give him decent Attack Damage and cooldown reducion. Furthermore, its active skill enables her to duel an enemy better, as it lowers the opponent’s damage output for a short duration.

Knight’s Vow – Knight’s Vow gives Rek’Sai good utility for her team. It gives her good armor, health and cooldown reduction, allowing her to take the brunt of the damage during team fights. Moreover, its active skill lets her mitigate damage from her carries.

The Black Cleaver – Rek’Sai’s main damaging item, the Black Cleaver gives her great Attack Damage, Health and cooldown reduction stats. Moreover, this item gives her auto attacks a debuff that shreds the enemies’ armor every time she hits them, up to a cap.

Dead Man’s Plate Dead Man’s Plate Guardian Angel

Mercury’s Treads – Get this boots upgrade on Rek’Sai as it gives her good movement speed and magic resistance. More importantly, Mercury’s Treads decreases enemy crowd controls casted on Rek’Sai, allowing her to survive and deal damage during team fights.

Dead Man’s Plate – Dead Man’s Plate is a good item for Rek’Sai. Defensively, it gives her good Armor and health bonuses. Offensively, Dead Man’s Plate grants her bonus movement speed and gives her auto attack a slow once she has full momentum stacks.

Guardian Angel – A standard defensive item for carries, Guardian Angel provides armor and Attack Damage. Furthermore, it grants Rek’Sai with a resurrection buff when she incurs lethal damage. This allows her to survive and continue the fight.

Situational Items
Spirit visage icon Steraks gage icon
Spirit Visage Randuin’s Omen Sterak’s Gage
Adaptive Helm Icon Thornmail icon
Adaptive Helm Thornmail

Spirit Visage – Getting this item bolsters Rek’Sai’s health regeneration and magic resistance. This is especially useful when dealing with enemies who deal magic damage; she is able to take some damage from such enemies, while dealing her damage to them as well.

Randuin’s Omen – Rek’Sai has good initiating skills, and Randuin’s Omen further helps her chase and lock down enemies. It gives her good armor and health, as well as a slow that she can activate, slowing enemies around her.

Sterak’s Gage – Sterak’s Gage gives Rek’Sai a protective health shield when her health reaches a certain level. This is useful when she engages the enemy team, and becomes the target for their skills and disables.

Adaptive Helm – For enemy teams that spam magic damage, getting Adaptive Helm greatly helps Rek’Sai. It gives her good coverage in magic resistance, health and health regeneration. Moreover, it mitigates magic damage from skills that are casted in succession on her.

Thornmail – For enemy teams that deal Physical and Auto Attacks, getting Thornmail is a good choice. This item gives her great armor and health bonuses, allowing her to tank damage. Furthermore, Thornmail returns auto attack damage back to its source, as well as inflicting them with Grievous Wounds, effectively hindering their health regeneration. This is especially effective against ADCs.

Playing Against

  • Rek’Sai lacks CC to control her opponents with. She won’t be able to lock you down easily so as long as you keep her distance from her, she’ll have a hard time following you despite her added mobility.
  • As a general rule, ward potential areas where Rek’Sai might be lurking. For example, you need to ward bushes and choke points to limit her ganking pressure.
  • Try to destroy her tunnels  as quickly as possible every time you see it. This will lessen her mobility greatly as she depends on her tunnel to go in and out of certain areas in the map as fast as possible.
  • Rek’Sai’s tremor sense allows her to fish out enemies who are moving in the jungle. To counteract this, when you see Rek’Sai prowling, stop moving. This effectively masks your location and giving you the opportunity to catch her by surprise.

Hard Counter

  • Fizz – Fizz is a high mobile champion who also packs a punch. For instance, he is capable of dodging Rek’Sai’s combo with his Playful / Trickster. Once she whiffs her combo, Fizz then punishes her with Chum the Waters + Urchin Strike + Seastone Trident combo.
  • Irelia – Irelia is a deceptively hardy champion who is capable of squaring off against Rek’Sai. Her Equilibrium Strike can either slow or stun Rek’Sai, leaving her open to Irelia’s auto attacks. Furthermore, Hiten Style grants her auto attacks with True Damage for a couple of seconds. Finally, Bladesurge allows Irelia to stick to Rek’Sai, and Transcendent Blades heals her for each time she hits an enemy.
  • Gangplank – Gangplank excels when enemies try to engage him, especially when he has placed his Powder Kegs. In a pinch, he can remove Rek’Sai’s knock up from (W) Unburrow with Remove Scurvy.
  • Alistar – Alistar specializes in displacing enemies and thwarting any engaging champions. For example, he can simply Headbutt Rek’Sai away once she (E) Tunnels in; Alistar can then punish her with Pulverize while his team focuses her down.
