Strategy
Jungle
- Take (W) Battle Roar when jungling as it greatly sustains your health prolonging your stay in the jungle.
- Once you have all of your three basic skills available, you can opt for a gank in the other lanes to provide your team with an advantage in gold and exp early on.
- When ganking, be sure that your ferocity is full and to not waste it on jungle creeps. With this, you can use (E) Bola Strike‘s Ferocity Effect allowing you to root the enemy and maximizing the chances of a kill.
- You can hide in brushes so that you can leap towards your target and close the gap. You can also use this while you’re using your ultimate, (R) Thrill of the Hunt.
- You can position yourself well in a teamfight with your (R) Thrill of the Hunt allowing you to close-in on squishy targets and taking them down first.

Maw of Malmortius | Phantom Dancer | Guardian Angel |
Maw of Malmortius – Build Maw of Malmortius if the enemy has a lot of continuous magic damage as this item gives you a shield that blocks magic damage when you have low health. It also provides damage which is why it’s such a versatile item for Rengar.
Phantom Dancer – Phantom Dancer gives you more dueling potential and movement speed, something which Rengar needs. This item can be turn the tides of battle when you are behind in the game, making you more of a fighter rather than an assassin.
Guardian Angel – Guardian Angel is a great late game item if both teams are already item-locked and one wrong clash can cost the whole game. Aside from the attack damage, the most important aspect of this item is the revive which can let you wreak havoc one more time the moment you die in a team fight.
Playing Against
- You should try to engage Rengar when he has low ferocity as he won’t have his abilities empowered yet. When he does get his resource bar full, try to avoid facing him head on as his skills become more powerful.
- Try to distance yourself from brushes as Rengar can easily leap from them and close in on you.
- Rengar relies heavily on his mobility to deal damage so disable him as much as possible so that he can’t get close to your squishy allies and one-hit them.
Hard Counter
- Jax – Jax can easily defend against Rengar’s incomming attack with his (E) Counter Strike. This allows him to not only dodge the incoming attack but stun Rengar in return which he can quickly followup with his (W) Empower.
- Fiora – Fiora can also turn the tides against Rengar as her (W) Riposte can parry rengar’s disable and can stun him in return. Once she counterattacks Rengar, she can quickly follow up with her ult hitting all of Rengar’s vitals setting up for an easy kill.
