Strategy

  • Tristana is highly dependent on getting her items. So, It is best to focus on last-hitting the minion wave and utilizing her (E) Explosive Charge’s passive to maximize her damage and Creep Score. Likewise, she can also cast (E) Explosive Charge’s active skill on enemy minions to whittle down the wave’s health and help her last hit and farm.
  • When you cast (E) Explosive Charge on an enemy champion, do you best to continue damaging that champion to detonate and deal even more damage to her enemy laner.
  • Once your (E) Explosive Charge has 4 charges, her (W) Rocket Jump’s cooldown is instantly refreshed. You can use this to ensure you get the 4 charges by jumping close to the target to get a better shot, deal more damage and detonate the charge quickly.
  • You can cast (E) Explosive Charge on enemy turrets to deal more damage to it.
  •  Champion Kills and Assists refreshes (W) Rocket Jump‘s cooldown. Moreover, use this to secure objectives such as cleaning up a team clash.
  • Before you enter a clash, remember to activate your (Q) Rapid Fire to greatly increase your attack speed and potential damage output against enemies.
  • (R) Buster Cannon can be used offensively or defensively. She can use this to finish off low-health enemies, or she can knock back an opponent who get too close to her.

Starter Items 3

If you feel that you want to focus on farming during the early and mid-game laning phase, this item build is a good option.

Core Items
Statikk Shiv Icon Berserker's Greaves
B.F. Sword Stattik Shiv Berserker’s Greaves

Infinity Edge – This item is Tristana’s main Attack Damage item. It gives her tremendous Attack Damage and increases her critical strike chance, all are essential to increase her potency in team fights or when dueling.

Stattik Shiv – One of the items that builds out of Zeal, this item provides attack and movement speed, increased critical strike chance and its passive sends out a bolt of energy that deals damage to a number of enemies. These are excellent for Tristana, as it can further help her farm for items, as well make her dish out more damage during clashes.

Berserker’s Greaves – A standard boots upgrade, Berserker’s Greaves provides movement and attack speed bonuses that bolsters Tristana’s damage output once she gets her Attack Damage items.

Tristana’s item path primarily revolves around three items – B.F. Sword, Zeal and Boots of Speed. Tristana usually prioritizes getting high-damage items first before attack speed items, because her (Q) Rapid Fire skill covers her Attack Speed needs during the early game. Building AP Tristana is not recommended as of the current meta because of how it doesn’t scale that well with ability power.

The Bloodthirster – This item enables Tristana to survive duels against enemy champions. The Bloodthirster synergizes with her (Q) Rapid Fire skill, giving her increased Attack Speed and let her heal damage via its lifesteal passive.

Blade of the Ruined King – This item is usually purchased to deal with tanky champions who buy bonus health items. Blade of the Ruined King gives Attack Speed and lifesteal, as well as bonus on-hit damage based on their current health percentage to enemies.

Lord Dominik’s Regards – This item is bought to address tanks and champions who build armor and health items. This item synergizes well with Blade of the Ruined King, as their on-hit effects greatly empower Tristana’s ability to melt enemy tanks and frontliners.

Mortal Reminder – This item deals with champions who have high health and health regeneration. Also, Mortal Reminder greatly inhibits enemies’ ability to regain health, from tanks to enemy carries who are reliant on lifesteal or spell vamp.

Phantom Dancer – This item enhances Tristana’s ability to duel against enemy champions. Its passive decreases an enemy champion’s damage to Tristana, as long as she is tagging that champion with her auto attacks. Phantom Dancer also provides high Attack Speed bonus, movement speed and critical strike chance.

Rapid Fire Cannon – This item provides increases Tristana’s ability to damage opponents at a safe distance. Tristana gains charges for Rapid Firecannon’ passive, Energize. Once she gets 100 stacks, Tristana’s gains 35% attack range (up to a maximum of +150 range) and her next auto attack deals 50 – 120 (based on level) bonus on-hit magic damage. It also provides increased attack and movement speed, as well as critical strike chance.

Playing Against

  • Avoid being too close to creeps with low health. Tristana’s (E) Explosive Charge will deal splash damage to enemies around a target she kills.
  • If she casts (E) Explosive Charge on you, keep a safe distance away from your minion wave and allied champion to avoid damaging them.
  • You can punish Tristana if she misuses her (W) Rocket Jump. This skill can be overridden with hard disables such as hook, area-of-effect stuns, and displacement skills.
  • Do your best to lure Tristana into using her (Q) Rapid Fire skill. When she uses this skill, withdraw from the fight and re-engage her when the skill dissipates.
  • Be on your toes when initiating Tristana. She can disengage with (W) Rocket Jump, or outright thwart your advances with (R) Buster Shot.

Hard Counter

Lucian – Good Lucian players can steadily harass Tristana in-lane with his Piercing Light and Ardent Blaze. He can also utilize his skills such as Relentless Pursuit in conjuction with his Lightbringer passive, which enables him to auto attack twice for each time he casts a spell, to further ramp up his harass, forcing Tristana to leave her lane and return back to base to heal.

Draven – Draven can deal massive damage with his Spinning Axe + auto attack combo. He can also thwart Tristana’s  Rocket Jump with a well-timed Stand Aside, leaving her open to his empowered auto attacks.

Sivir – Sivir can push her lane quickly thanks to her Boomerang Blade and Ricochet. Tristana usually struggles to last hit minions when they get to turret range. Also, Sivir can also block  Explosive Charge with her Spell Shield.
