LoL World Championships News - Group and Play-In Pools for 2017 Worlds Set

This article contains information about the teams participating in the Group and Play-in Pools for the upcoming Worlds 2017 LoL Championships.

The recently concluded Group and Play-In Draw for the Worlds 2017 Championships have effectively assorted the 24 participants into their respective groups.

For the Play-In Stage, the groupings are as follows:

Group A

  • Team WE (LPL)
  • Gambit (LCL)
  • Lyon Gaming (LLN)

Group B

  • Cloud9 (NA LCS)
  • Team oNe Esports (CBLoL)
  • Dire Wolves (OPL)

Group C

  • Fnatic (EU LCS)
  • Young Generation (GPL)
  • Kaos Latin Gamers (CLS)

Group D

  • Hong Kong Attitude (LMS)
  • 1907 Fenerbahçe (TCL)
  • Rampage (LJL)

As mentioned in a recent article regarding the Play-In mechanics for the 2017 Worlds, the top four teams from each group will be included in the Group Stage pool by way of the Draw system once again.

Some noteworthy teams that are part in the Play-Ins are Fnatic (EU LCS), Cloud 9 (NA LCS) and Gambit eSports (LCL). These teams have been in World Championships in the past, and will look to use their experience to rise among their respective groups.

Also included in the Play-in Stage are Team WE (LPL), China’s pioneering eSports organization, and Lyon Gaming (LLN), as well as Team oNe eSports (CBLoL), the youngest and up and coming team to join the Play-In Stage.

The Worlds 2017 will commence on September 23 with the Play-In Stage, and will conclude on September 28-29.

The 2017 Worlds sees the return of defending champions, SK Telecom T1 (LCK), who plans on winning another World Championship. Team Solo Mid (NA LCS) is also returning to the Group Stage this year, making them the only LoL team that has appeared in every League of Legends World Championship to date.

Once the winners from the Play-In Stage have been finalized and relegated to their respective Group Stage pools, the Group Stage will officially begin on October 5-8 and October 12-15. Afterwards, the Knockout Stages will commence on October 19-22, October 28-29, and November 4.
