Post-Game Unlockables Guide for Metal Gear Solid (MGS1)

Beating the game unlocks clear bonus items (Stealth Camouflage and Bandana).

Beating the main story of Metal Gear Solid (MGS1) and starting the game again with the clear data lets you use the special items Bandana (grants infinite ammo) or Stealth Camouflage (prevents visual detection).

The Bandana is unlocked for getting the Meryl Ending (good ending) which requires you to endure Ocelot’s torture sequence at the Tank Hangar Medical Room. The Stealth Camouflage, meanwhile, is acquired for getting the Otacon Ending (bad ending) which plays when you submit during the ordeal.

View all endings to unlock the Tuxedo outfit.

The secret Tuxedo outfit for snake is unlocked for unlocking both the Meryl Ending and Otacon Ending. Once you begin a new playthrough and reach the Heliport area, Snake will change into the Tuxedo outfit instead of his default sneaking suit.

Things to Do After Beating the Game

Unlock a different ending.

You can try beginning a new playthrough to unlock a different ending from your previous run. Doing so lets will also reward you with the bonus item that you did not during your first clear.

Aim for Big Boss title (clear rank).

The Metal Gear series is known for bestowing titles to players based on their overall performance after beating the game. Factors such as clear time, how many times you have been spotted by enemies, and even number of foes killed are usually those that determine your clear rank.

In most installments in the franchise, the title that is hardest to achieve is Big Boss. This is also the highest rank you can get in Metal Gear Solid (MGS1).
