Metal Gear Solid (MGS1) Main Story Walkthroughs

Caves

1	Head north through the caves by crawling.
2	Use Stun Grenades to stun wolves that appear.
3	Proceed to the southeast and crawl through the hole.
4	Meet up with Meryl and go through the door.

Underground Passage

1	Go through the minefield by crawling. ┗ Use Thermal Goggles to know where the Claymore mines are.
2	After the cutscene, return to the Tank Hangar Armory B2F. ┗ Call frequency 141.12 to know the location of the sniper rifle.

Useful Tips

You can fast travel to various areas you visited by hiding under specific cardboard boxes you have obtained thus far.

Equip the Cardboard Box A and get on the truck on the 1F of the Nuclear Warhead Storage Building to fast travel to the Heliport (since the canyon where you fought the M1 Tank has gun cameras and Claymore mines all over the field, you can save time having to go through them by fast traveling).

Equipping the Cardboard Box B, meanwhile, lets you fast travel back to the 1F of the Nuclear Warhead Storage Building from the Heliport truck.

Tank Hangar Armory B2F

1	Enter the northwest room using the Lv5 ID card
2	Use Thermal Goggles to avoid the traps in front of the PSG1. ┗ After finding it, move to the area from the southwest.
3	Return to the underground passage.

Underground Passage (Revisit)

1	Defeat Sniper Wolf (1st battle).
2	After defeating Sniper Wolf, head forward for a cutscene. ┗ An event that will determine the type of ending you will get will be coming up so it is recommended to save here.
3	Get a ID Card Lv.1.
4	A forced battle will occur when you go outside.
5	Kill the enemies using the SOCOM.
6	Take the elevator to B2F.

Sniper Wolf Boss Battle (1st Battle)

Tips to Beat Sniper Wolf (1st Battle)

Stick to the left and right walls and do not expose yourself when the laser sights from Sniper Wolf’s rifle is still present.
When the laser sights disappear, equip the PSG1 and aim for the boss.
To reduce camera shake while aiming, use Diazepam.

Medical Room

1	Go through the torture sequence ┗ The ending you will get at the end of the game depends on whether you endure or submit to Revolver Ocelot’s torture. To get the best ending, do not submit.
2	Get Ketchup from Otacon.
3	Use Ketchup while lying on the floor while the guard is not looking.
4	When the guard opens the door, throw him and escape.
5	Collect your gear and leave the medical room. ┗There is a time bomb in your gear so be sure to throw it away.
6	Return to the underground passage.

Useful Tips

If Snake catches a cold and sneezes, use some Cold Medicine. You can get this in the middle room on the west side of the Nuclear Warhead Storage Building B1F.

You can also pick up the Body Armor at the level 6 room on the west side of the Nuclear Warhead Storage Building B2F. There will be a forced battle with the enemy ahead, so make a detour to get the Body Armor.
