Metal Gear Solid (MGS1) Main Story Walkthroughs

Underground Warehouse (North)

1	There is a pitfall in the middle of the passage, so run past it.
2	Disable the gun camera with a Chaff Grenade and run.

Mine Detector (if you do not have it yet)

Underground Base (1F)

1	Proceed to the right (radio Otacon).
2	Climb the ladder to the 2F.

Underground Base (2F)

1	Proceed through the passage (radio Otacon).
2	Climb the ladder to the 3F.

Underground Base (3F)

1	Answer Otacon’s call when you get on REX via the ladder.
2	Kill enemies on the way to the control room.
3	Watch the cutscene upon entering the control room.
4	Head to the 1F. ┗ How you get the PAL key depends on the number of times you were discovered by the enemy.

Underground Base (1F)

1	If the PAL Key falls in the drain, run around to get it. If it gets stolen by a mouse, set a C4 or Claymore where it will run to to kill the rodent.
2	Head to the control room and enter the room temperature PAL Key.
3	Head to the underground warehouse where you fought Raven.

Underground Warehouse

1	Wait until the PAL Key cools down. ┗ Hold down L2 to see if it has cooled down.
2	Afterwards, return to the control room and insert the low-temperature PAL key.
3	Head to the blast furnace.

Blast Furnace

1	Wait until the PAL Key warms up. ┗ Hold down L2 to see if it has warmed up.
2	Afterwards, return to the control room.

Underground Base (3F)

1	Insert the warm PAL Key in the control room.
2	After generating gas, contact Otacon.
3	Leave the control room and follow Liquid Snake.
4	Defeat Metal Gear Rex.
5	Defeat Liquid Snake.

Metal Gear Rex Boss Battle

Tips to Beat Metal Gear Rex

Use Chaff Grenades to hinder Metal Gear Rex’s vision.
Pass through Metal Gear Rex’s legs and position yourself behind it on the left side.
Attack the radome on the boss’ left shoulder with the Stinger.
Aim at the cockpit at a medium range during the second phase of the fight. If you get too close, you will be trampled or get hit by lasers..

Liquid Snake Boss Battle (Final Boss)

Tips to Beat Liquid Snake

The final boss of the game is fought within a time limit of 2 mins and 30 seconds.
You can grab and throw Liquid Snake with the directional pad + □. The damage, however, is low so stick to using punches and kicks to reduce the boss’ health.
If Liquid Snake dodges your punches, avoid following up with the kick and quickly move away.
If you are knocked off Metal Gear Rex and are hanging on the edge, mash the button to climb back up.
Liquid Snake will perform a tackle attack when his health is low. When you see the boss crouch down and shout, move to the left or right to avoid the attack. Then, approach Liquid Snake before he recovers to land some hits.
The battle will not end even if you reduce Liquid Snake’s health to 0. To finish off the boss, land a kick when he is near the edge.
If you do not defeat Liquid Snake within the time limit, you will get a GAME OVER. When you restart, the time limit will be adjusted to 3 minutes.

Escape Route

1	Pick up the Ration on the right.
2	Go left and pick up another Ration.
3	Go through the forced encounter in the parking lot.
4	Get on the jeep.
5	Destroy the drum with the machine gun. ┗ While holding △, you can shoot in first-person view (hold down □).
6	Destroy the drum at the checkpoint.
7	Reaching the second checkpoint will kill all enemies instantly.
8	Survive Liquid Snake’s pursuit.
9	Watch the ending.
