Game Review / Writer's blog - Heroes of the Storm – Ana Amari, the Veteran Sniper enters the Nexus: News

Another support enters the Nexus in Heroes of the Storm. Brace yourselves for Ana Amari, the Veteran Sniper has entered the Nexus.

Ana Amari, the Veteran Sniper enters the Nexus!

One of the founding members of Overwatch, Ana Amari made herself known as the “Best Sniper”. Because of her ability as the best sniper, she served as second-in-command. However, this all changed when another sniper shot her eye which forced her to retire. The defeat and the loss of her eye became so devastating. She then retreated from the front lines and raised her daughter, Pharah. When Pharah entered the front lines for Overwatch, Ana Amari soon found herself itching to return. With her desire to protect and help people compelling her, Ana Amari enters the Nexus to safeguard her allies and support them to victory.

Strengths

Heroes of the Storm Ana is a special kind of support, having niche-specific abilities. As a sniper, she is able to take out enemies at long range similarly to Nova. However, what differentiates her from Nova is her specific skill-set that makes her an anti-healer. Her initial ability, Shrike, deals poison damage which deals additional DOT (Damage Over Time) especially if stacked. And whenever she uses a basic attack, it refreshes to continue stacking.

Her main asset for healing is Healing Dart. What also makes her increasingly terrifying is her long range which is longer than most snipers, making her outstrip Nova in terms of sniping. Her Healing Dart however only affects heroes, preventing minions and enemies from getting in the way. Combined with her Biotic Grenade, she can easily heal heroes with large health pools such as Diablo, Cho’gall and, other tanks. However, the Biotic Grenade only affects an ally’s healing intake for a short period of time. As for enemies, any enemy that takes a hit from Biotic Grenade prevents them from being healed and a damage. This works against burst healers like Auriel, who are known to heal for large chunks dependent on their energy.

However, Ana has abilities similarly to Malfurion. While Malfurion has Enervate, Ana’s heroic – Nano Boost – boosts her allies temporarily while at the same time healing their mana. Pairing that with either a Li-Ming on Glass Cannon or a Kel’Thuzad makes her increasingly devastating. Did I forget to mention that it reduces cool downs? Imagine giving Malthael or Raynor a shot of that. Time to watch the chaos ensue.

But if players plan to fight alone, players can opt for Eye of Horus. Unfortunately for enemies, it’s global cast. Allies, rejoice. Ana Amari’s heals are global when she activates Eye of Horus.

Weaknesses

Unfortunately, Ana Amari’s heals do not work on herself. She is also increasingly fragile despite her long range. It takes a lot of skill especially in position since her Eye of Horus seems to force players to stay in a single place. Players who plan to use Heroes of the Storm Ana need to know how to hide. Or, they need to know where to stay if they plan on supporting their allies.

Based on gameplay, she doesn’t seem too efficient with Nano-Boosting allies that have melee Global Cast skills themselves. One hero that may have this problem is Illidan with his The Hunt heroic skill. At level 20, he is capable of targeting anyone on the map. Heroes of the Storm Ana will only have a few seconds before he launches off.
