Resident Evil 2’s VA will not reprise her role in the upcoming Remake
According to her Youtube message, Alyson Court, a union VA based from Toronto will unfortunately not reprise her role as Claire Redfield in the upcoming survival horror game Resident Evil 2 Remake.
A Look Back
Claire Redfield is one of the protagonists ingrained in the memories of those who have played this classic game. According to the Sony Playstation manual of the said game, her behavior might appear tomboyish at times, but she was able to balance it well in her interaction with the young girl Sherry Birkin. Upon their encounter inside the Police Station, fans could see how she adapted a more nurturing role throughout the story. A role portrayed almost flawlessly by the voice actress.

Alyson Court was able to secure her role as Claire Redfield not only in the video games, counting Resident Evil 2, and Code: Veronica, and the spin-offs Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, and Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D, but also in the CG film Resident Evil: Degeneration. Not only that, she was able to display her phenomenal expertise in the industry as the extension of the character herself.
Although it can be mentioned that this was not her first absence. During the release of one of the more recent titles, Resident Evil Revelations 2, credits show how even VAs with peculiar names (aliases) can engrave themselves in video game industry.

According to Alyson, the team in-charge of the game’s localization (voice recordings) chose to go Non Union. In other words, the Voice actors for the game will come from non union ones, which usually entails hiring underpaid VAs as means to overall cut costs.

It is evident that its predecessor, Resident Evil Remake made do with a new cast, which is most likely the case in several games that have received a remake. However, for a team to lay-off a VA such as Alyson, this could show the incompetence of the team in-charge if their sole reason was as Alyson puts it “to go non union.”
Resident Evil 2 is a classic title, notable for being one of the best survival horror games during its time. Regardless of the team’s decision, nevertheless the classic rightfully deserves a Remake comprised of a team from a very high caliber.

According to Capcom’s producer, the game started its development since the 21st of August, 2015 with no release date.
