The Callisto Protocol features different difficulty modes that you can choose from when starting a New Game. The type of difficulty you choose mostly affects the level of enemies encountered throughout the main story campaign.

Availability of ammo, Callisto Credits, and healing items is unaffected by game difficulty. You will generally find the same amount of supplies throughout Black Iron Prison regardless of what setting you choose to play on.

Difficulty Mode Average Completion Time Enemy Strength
Minimum Security Difficulty (Easy) 8-12 Hours Enemies deal the least damage and have the least amount of health of all the difficulty modes.
Medium Security Difficulty (Normal) 9-14 Hours Enemies deal standard damage and have the standard amount of health.
Maximum Security Difficulty (Hard) 12-15 Hours Enemies have deal the most damage and have the amount of health (about twice compared to Minimum Security difficulty) out of all difficulty modes.

Which Difficulty Setting Should You Start With?

Medium Security (Normal Mode)

For beginners and those with little to no experience with the Dead Space series (or survival horror games in general), it is recommended to play on Medium Security (Normal) difficulty. This allows you to get a feel for the game’s combat on its default setting. Afterwards, feel free to lower or increase the difficulty at any time during the play.
