The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV is the fourth installment to the Trails of Cold Steel saga, a series of role-playing games. The game continues the franchise character-driven narrative style and worldbuilding, with events taking place two weeks after the last battle that happened in Trails of Cold Steel III.

Story

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV follows the story of the Rean Schwarzer and the rest of the class VII members both old and new. The story is set right after the concluding battle of the previous game. Players will go through different scenarios, and many of these consist of quests which count towards improving one’s understanding of Erebonia and Crosbell.

Gameplay

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV continues to adopt a traditional Japanese role-playing game style, allowing players to explore various towns and dungeons throughout the main story. Enemies are visible in the game world and can be attacked to initiate combat. Chests containing useful items and equipment are also found while exploring.

Combat is turn-based, with the player issuing specific commands to each character to move, attack, use abilities and items, and other actions.

S-Crafts

Each character can replenish his Craft Points (CP) when he takes action in battle such as dishing out an attack or sustaining damage. When a character’s CP reaches 100 or more, he can unleash S-Craft. The S-Craft is a high-charged skill that can swing the battle to the party’s favor.

Lost Arts

Each character can execute a powerful Arts imbued with different kinds of elements brought from the memories of the past. A Lost Art is a skill that converts all of the character’s EP to generate a myriad of effects that cover the arena. Unlike the S-Craft, the Lost Art can only be used once per battle.

Command Mechs

Even a character who lacks the accompaniment of the Divine Knight can now use command a mech to fight by his side.
