A guide on all game difficulty modes in The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4. Included are information on Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard, and Nightmare mode, basic mechanics, and which difficulty to choose when playing for the first time.

Difficulty Modes

There are five (5) difficulty modes in The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4. The type of game difficulty you choose mainly affects combat so feel free to choose any mode that suits your preference.

List of Difficulty Modes

Mode	Details
Very Easy	The easiest difficulty setting which offers the least amount of challenge during combat. Choose this mode if you simply want to enjoy the game’s story.
Easy	Offers a slight challenge during combat compared to Very Easy. Choose this mode if you want to enjoy both battles and the game’s story.
Normal	The default difficulty setting. Offers a balanced experience during combat. Choose this mode if you are already familiar with role-playing games (RPGs).
Hard	Offers a challenging experience during combat. Choose this mode if you are a veteran of RPGs and are not satisfied with playing on the default difficulty setting.
Nightmare	Offers the toughest challenge during combat where one mistake can be fatal. Choose this mode if you wish to test your limits against the hardest versions of enemies.

Difficulty Can Be Changed Any Time (Except on Nightmare)

You can change the difficulty setting at any time during your playthrough if you are having trouble defeating certain enemies or bosses. Note that this is only possible when playing on all game modes except Nightmare.

Permanent Events

Experience and Money Gained in Battle is the Same in All Difficulty Modes

You will earn the same amount of money and experience regardless of the difficulty mode set. This mean sthat you can simply change the setting to Very Easy at any time during play (except on Nightmare) for faster leveling and money farming.

Which Difficulty Should You Choose?

It is recommended to play the game for the first time on Normal to get a feel for the combat on its default setting. From there, you can easily choose to lower or increase the difficulty when you need to for certain situations such as when enemies are too easy or too hard to defeat.
