How to Use United Attacks and Effects Guide for SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB)

Link party member actions within their respective turn orders in the timeline.

SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB) - United Attacks 1

In SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB), United Attacks are activated when you link party member Techs, spells, and actions together.

The range of unity is fixed for each Tech and spell. Note that there are also some abilities that cannot be used in United Attacks.

The combo range is displayed on the Tech selection screen as well as on the timeline at the bottom of the screen.

United Attacks will trigger even when the target enemies of Techs and Spells are different.

SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB) - United Attacks 2

If combo ranges overlap on the timeline, United Attacks will be activated even if the targets are different enemies.

In addition, even if the effective areas Techs or skills used in United Attacks are different, the United Attack will still be performed.

Situations that Prevent United Attacks from Activating

An enemy is in-between characters on the timeline.

SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB) - United Attacks 3

Even characters’ tech combo ranges overlap on the timeline, United Attacks will be canceled if there are enemies between them.

Because of this, carefully consider the order of your actions so that your allies can act in succession to trigger United Attacks.

An ally who is in a non-unity action is in-between characters on the timeline.

SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB) - United Attacks 4

United Attacks will also not activate if there is a defending ally (or any unlinkable action) in between party members.

As an example, consider a party consisting of Characters A, B, and C in the timeline order below.

[A (Attack)] –  [B (Defense)]  – [C (Attack)]

If this order of action is used, a United Attack will not occur even if the Tech or skill combo ranges of Characters A and C overlap.

Expand combo range on the timeline by defeating enemies with United Attacks.

SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB) - United Attacks 5

If you defeat an enemy using United Attacks, the range of the enemy’s moves will transferred to your allies.

This makes it possible to activate United Attacks even if the timeline is ordered in such a way that they would not normally connect.

Purposefully hold off finishing weakened enemies to get the most out of United Attacks.

SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB) - United Attacks 6

Instead of finishing off an enemy who is close to death, you can intentionally end your turn and use United Attacks on the next. Doing so will allow you to take over the combo range of the enemy which increases the chances of continuous United Attacks later.

Defeat an enemy using United Attacks also rewards you with a kill bonus that will let you accumulate Combo Rate faster.

Be warned, however, that it is somewhat difficult to predict the order of actions for the next turn and you may end up taking more hits from enemy attacks. Because of this, be mindful of not forcing the strategy too much if there are better ways to win the fight.

Effects of Using United Attacks

Increases Combo Rate and damage.

SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB) - Overdrive 1

Using United Attacks increases your party’s Combo Rate rate and the damage you deal in battle. As you accumulate higher Combo Rates, the chance of an Overdrive activating also goes up which leads to more efficient ways to deal massive damage.

Overdrive has a higher chance to occur.

SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB) - Overdrive 2

Overdrive has a chance to activate if you increase your Combo Rate to at least 150%. If your Combo Rate exceeds 200%, Overdrive is guaranteed to occur.

In addition, the higher your Combo Rate, the more party members will be able to participate in Overdrive.

Reduced BP cost on your next turn.

SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB) - United Attacks 7

Depending on your party’s formation, performing United Attacks may reduce the BP cost (★) on your next turn.

Some formations that can be used near the start of the game include “Cooperative Formation” and “Desert Lance.”

Clears Mr. S Trials.

SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB) - Teacher's Trials

Some Mr. S Trials involve using United Attacks in one way or another. Clearing these optional objectives lets you receive rewards and other useful benefits in the game.

Bonuses that Increase Combo Rate

Additional Unity Bonuses

SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB) - United Attacks 9

During United Attacks, if an ally who is not originally part of the coordinated assault joins the attack later, an additional unity bonus will be rewarded.

Examples of this include situations where a party member joins a United Attack through follow-ups or interrupts, or when you participate in a United Attack by taking over the combo range of enemies.

Kill Bonuses

SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB) - United Attacks 10

If you defeat an enemy using a United Attack, you will receive a kill bonus which increases your Combo Rate.

At the same time, killing an enemy may also result in a unity takeover in the timeline, so additional unity bonuses may also be applied.

Because of these benefits, you may consider the strategy mentioned earlier on ending your turn to finish off a dying enemy with a United Attack on the next.

Revenge Bonuses

SaGa: Emerald Beyond (SaGa: EB) - United Attacks 11

Revenge bonuses will be activated if an ally who was supposed to join in a United Attack becomes incapacitated before it triggers on the timeline.

It is quite difficulty to activate this on purpose so just focus on employing more consistent strategies and treat revenge bonuses as simply a nice reward on the side.

Keep in mind that revenge bonuses may also trigger if you include a dying ally in the United Attack.
