LoL World Championships News - Play-ins Stage Day 1 and 2: C9 and Team WE on Top of the Podium

This news article is about the results and highlights of the first and second day of the League of Legends play-ins stage of Worlds 2017 in China.

North America’s Cloud9 and China’s Team WE have dominated the play-ins stage to conclude the first and second day of the League of Legends Worlds 2017 preliminary matches held in China.

Team WE and Cloud9 gathered a 4-0 score on group A and B, respectively, to lead their brackets coming in the play-in stages. Lyon Gaming came in second with 2-2 score at Group A while Team oNe Esports managed to secure the second spot at Group B with a 2-3 outing.

The veteran lineup of Gambit Esports failed  to win a game in the second round as they got a dismal record of 0-4 in group A. Dire Wolves, on the hand, notched only one win the group stages, but was not able to capitalize in the do-or-die game against Team oNe Esports to get the second place finish at the group B bracket.

It was a pretty straightforward match for the more dominant teams such as C9 and Team WE as they went all out after defeating the other teams in their bracket and giving them the comfortable 2-0 lead in the first day.

LLN’s Lyon Gaming lost to Team WE at the first match of the tournament but was able to bounce back against Gambit with Lyon Gaming’s Seiya and WhiteLotus leading the team to victory. Dire Wolves also lost to their first match against Cloud9 but were able to win against Brazil’s Team oNe Esports.

Team oNe Esports and Gambit Esports were finding difficulty in the first day as they went 0-2.

Play-ins Stage Day 2

C9 and Team WE continued their winning ways in the second day of the play-ins stage after capping off their brackets with another two wins to solidify their spot in the second round of the tournament with 4-0.

Gambit Esports was the first one to be eliminated in the play-ins after losing two of their games. They were unable to stand out in their third game against Lyon’s Gaming with a disappointing performance from their carries Kira and Blasting. Gambit also had a very unorthodox pick in their final game against Team WE with a Nunu support and a Yasuo in the mid lane.

Team oNe Esports and Dire Wolves, on the other hand, had to battle it out for the second spot in group B. Dire Wolves had lost two of their games against Cloud 9  and Team oNe Esports. With both of their scores at 1-3, Team oNe emerged victorious at the tiebreaker game to proceed to the second round and face Cloud 9 in the second round of the play-ins stage.
