Which Starting Class Should You Choose in Lords of the Fallen 2?

Best Starting Classes for Melee Builds

Class Features Beginner Recommendation
Lords of the Fallen 2 - Hallowed Knight ClassHallowed Knight
  • Most beginner-friendly melee class owing to its simple playstyle and very good balance of offense and defense.
  • Has the highest starting Endurance which is extremely useful for blocking or dodging attacks more frequently.
  • Equipped with the very good Hallowed Knight Shield at the start of the game.
  • Lacks a strong ranged option available to other melee classes at the start of the game.
★★★★★
Lords of the Fallen 2 - Partisan ClassPartisan
  • Most well-rounded non-mage class in the game owing to its ranged of starting equipment that includes a flail for close combat, a shield for defense, and the powerful crossbow for long-range engagements.
  • Very good for beginners and soulslike veterans because of its versatile playstyle that is easy to get used to.
  • Has less initial survivability than the Hallowed Knight so performing evasive actions more frequently will be mandatory.
★★★★
Lords of the Fallen 2 - Mournstead Infantry ClassMournstead Infantry
  • Excellent effective melee range with its starting spear weapon which also boasts fast speed to interrupt most regular enemies mid-attack.
  • Somewhat similar to the Partisan but leans slightly towards Agility.
  • Equipped with a shield to block attacks, though not as reliably as the Hallowed Knight Shield.
  • Can hit enemies from a distance using Short Javelins (thrown weapon).
★★★★
Lords of the Fallen 2 - Udirangr Warwolf ClassUdirangr Warwolf
  • Incredible overall melee damage output and range which can make quick work of most enemies in the early game.
  • Highest initial Strength stat out of all classes, making it the clear choice for pure Strength builds.
  • Starts with the Bloody Hatchet (thrown weapon) to hit enemies from a distance.
  • No shield and initially equipped with armor that offers the poor protection against attacks, requiring you to constantly dodge to avoid taking damage.
★★★

Recommended Melee Class for Beginners – Hallowed Knight

Lords of the Fallen 2 - Hallowed Knight

For beginners and new players, it is highly recommended to choose the Hallowed Knight as your starting class if you intend to go for a melee build. This class’ simplicity is its best feature, allowing you to learn the basics of combat while having enough survivability to outlast most early encounters in the game.

Since the Hallowed Knight class naturally favors Strength weapons, you will need to level up your Endurance to accommodate their greater weight. Investing into the stat also opens up your options for heavier shields and armor so you can tank more hits before needing to heal up.

The Hallowed Knight does have the initial disadvantage of not starting the game with a bow, crossbow, or any ranged weapon that can reliably pick off enemies from a distance. The class instead starts off with Grenades which are still effective at dispatching groups, albeit at more limited ranges.

Best Starting Classes for Mage Builds

Class Features Beginner Recommendation
Lords of the Fallen 2 - Orian Preacher ClassOrian Preacher
  • Has the highest starting Radiance stat, making it the best choice for pure Radiance mage builds.
  • Orian Preacher Hammer that scales of Strength is a good close-range backup weapon that deals both physical and holy damage.
  • Good starting point for Strength-Radiance hybrid builds.
  • Starts off with armor providing poor defense typical of mage classes but compensated by its initial Vitality (11) and use of healing spells.
★★★★
Lords of the Fallen 2 - Pyric Cultist ClassPyric Cultist
  • Essentially the Inferno-focused counterpart to the Orian Preacher mage starting class.
  • Low initial Strength, Agility, and Vitality, making it rely heavily on spells in the beginning of the game.
  • Good starting point for Inferno hybrid builds.
  • Starts off with armor providing poor defense typical of mage classes. This is compounded by its low starting Vitality (9) and is tied with the Condemned class for having the lowest initial HP in the game.
★★★

Recommended Mage Class for Beginners – Orian Preacher

Lords of the Fallen 2 - Orian Preacher

Beginners and new players looking to play a caster character should pick the Orian Preacher as their starting class which has initial access to very good Radiance magic that many early game enemies are weak to. This class also starts off with the Orian Preacher Hammer which is able to deal both physical and holy attribute damage in case you run out of mana in battle.

The Orian Preacher has decent levels in Strength at the start of the game, allowing you to experiment with Strength-Radiance hybrid builds commonly termed “Paladin” or “Cleric” builds. Being able to heal and buff yourself using Radiance magic further makes this class viable for engaging enemies up-close which can be on par with pure melee builds.

Lords of the Fallen 2 Orian Preacher Class Guide

The best class, overall, is the one you like the most.

In general, the best class to choose in the beginning of the game is the one that you like the most. This may be based on a class’ playstyle, available weapons, freedom of experimentation, and its appearance and lore. In the end, you will be able to beat the game with enough time and experience with the game’s various mechanics so just pick whatever starting class you have the most fun playing.

Do not give too much focus on a class’ difficulty rating.

While certain classes may be categorized as “Advanced Classes”, you should not shy away from picking them anyway even as a beginner or new player in Lords of the Fallen 2. This label is simply intended to generalize a certain class’ playstyle as either being somewhat more complex or challenging to get used to during the early stages.

Just spending time with any class should make you comfortable with them in the long-run so go ahead and feel out all starting classes if you need to before continuing with the game’s main story.
