CQC Controls and Guide for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (MGS3)
What is CQC?
CQC is the abbreviation for “Close Quarters Combat” and it is a form of fighting style made by Snake and The Boss. It also has a lot of options on how to perform the CQC with Snake whenever he engages an enemy.
How to Use CQC
Equip CQC Weapons
To perform a CQC, you need to have a CQC weapon that is equipped to Snake so that it can be used in combat. It is required to have a “CQC” mark on the weapon.

Stalk on enemies before approaching
Once you have an equipped CQC weapon to Snake, you can slowly approach an enemy by stalking.
Be cautious while using the left stick to get closer, as you will be noticed by the enemy because of the footsteps. Keep your distance between the enemy while stalking to avoid getting caught.
Restrain an enemy
When you get close enough to the enemy, you can restrain them by pressing 〇 button without even using the left stick.
However, when you press the 〇 button along with the left stick moving, it will cause you to throw down an enemy.
Actions and Controls
There are a lot more actions when performing a CQC, below is the list for each action:

|---|---|
| Movement | [Left Stick] Move while restraining the enemy. |
| Throw Down | [Left Stick + 〇] Throw the enemy after restraining them. |
| Break Neck | [Tap 〇 Button] Strangle the neck and make enemy faint. After passing out, press 〇 repeatedly to break the neck. |
| Slit Throat | [Hold 〇 Button] Cut throat using a knife for a kill. |
| Shield | [Press ◻︎ Button] Use the enemy as a Human Shield. |
| Threaten | [Press L3 Button] Threaten the enemy to gather information. |
CQC Alerts
Press 〇 button when ! appears
CQC can also be performed whenever an alert appears, you can press 〇 button at the right moment to successfully perform a CQC.
