Changes and Additions

Here is a list of changes and additions for Splatoon 2 that you will not find in its predecessor. All of these changes have helped improved the gameplay of Splatoon while adding more features into the game.

New Story/Location

Besides having a brand new story that takes places two years after the first game’s Hero Mode, the game now takes place in a new location called the Octo Canyon.

New Weapons

Main Weapons

  • Splat Dualies – a new weapon type that allows a player to spray ink using two hands. Two reticles will be shown on the screen, with each reticle being independent from each other depending on how you use your hands to control it. There is also a new roll mechanic for this weapon type and this can be activated by pressing the jump button while firing, which causes the Inkling to roll quickly to the chosen movement direction.

Sub Weapons

  • Curling Bomb – when this weapon is deployed, the bomb travels in a straight line one the floor. This movement leaves a trail of ink, while also bouncing off any walls in the area. This bomb will explode once it has reached its maximum distance.
  • Robot Bomb – this weapon detects the surroundings and keeps tracks of the enemies and allies within its range. It will explode after it tracks an enemy for a certain time.
  • Poison Mist – this weapon will generates a poisonous gas once you deploy it. The mist’s range will decrease over time.

Special Weapons

  • Inkjet – gives the ability for the player to fly in the air. It will also enable an Inkling to shoot Blaster-like projectiles from below. The Inkling will Super Jump back to the place where the Inkjet was activated once it reaches its limit.
  • Tenta Missiles – this Special Weapon allows Inklings to lock on to enemies within their vicinity. Once they are locked on, this weapon fire 4 missiles at them.
  • Splashdown – this special will make the Inkling jump in the air and strike the ground causing a huge ink explosion. This can also be used while Super Jumping.

New Features

Salmon Run

A new co-op mode where players need to collect Power Eggs and Golden eggs by eliminating Chums. To complete the mission, Inklings must bring a certain amount of Golden Eggs to a goal until the flag in their base is all the way up.

Changing Hairstyles

Not only will you be able to change your Avatar Inkling’s shirt and shoes, but also their hairstyle and pants (bottoms). There are now more customization options for your Inkling in Splatoon 2.

Watching Private Matches

You can now watch other people play Splatoon 2 online using the Private Battle Spectator View mode.

You can move the camera around the area so that you will be able to see certain areas the you wish to spectate on, and you can also zoom in to watch the battles much closer.

Local Multiplayer

The new feature for Splatoon’s multiplayer mode is Local Multiplayer, wherein you can use your docked Switch controllers to play Private Battles with your friends without connecting to the internet.

Online Lobby and Voice Chat

Splatoon has an online lobby and voice chat option that players can use to chat and interact with players around the world. Players can use this function before the game starts in Private Battles and during the battle itself (only allies can hear each other during the match).
