Battle System
In NEO: The World Ends With You, Rindo and his friends battle mysterious entities known as Noise. Invisible to most citizens of Shibuya, they can be visualized and challenged by Players using pins.
Combat in NEO: The World Ends With You
Similar to the previous game, NEO: The World Ends With You features action-style combat against Noise that lurk the streets of Shibuya. Players do battle using equipped pins that grant special offensive, defensive, and support abilities called Psychs.
Careful planning on which Psychs to use in battle against a variety of different enemies and coordinating attacks with your allies then becomes the key to achieving victory.

To begin battle, you must activate the Scan ability to make Noise symbols appear. Approach the symbol to challenge the Noise and press A (Nintendo Switch) to begin battle.

Battle Screen
Battle Screen Indicators
Indicator | Details |
---|---|
Team HP (Upper Left Corner) | Indicates the team’s current HP. Reduced whenever any team member takes damage from enemies. When the Team HP gauge drops to 0, it will result in a Game Over. |
Psych Gauges (Lower Middle Side) | Indicates each usable Psych equipped on each character. Using a Psych depletes its usage gauge and will temporarily be on cooldown after expending all of it in battle. |
Groove (Upper Middle Side) | Indicates the current Groove percentage in battle. To increase Groove, you must land a heavy attack or full combo on an enemy. When “Drop the Beat!” appears on the screen, have another teammate follow-up the attack to increase Groove. |
Groove
Groove is a special type of energy that accumulates as you follow-up attacks with different teammates. Once your Team’s Groove is at 100 percent, you will be able to unleash a powerful Mashup ability which deal massive damage on enemies or grant useful effects in battle.
Team (Party)
Combat is done using a Team of up to four members. Each character will be able to equip one pin at a time that allows them to use a specific Psyche (ability) in battle. Try to experiment with different combinations of pins while building strategies around them against the horde of Noise you will encounter throughout the main story.
Pin Points (PP)
After winning battles, you will be awarded with Pin Points (PP) used to level-up your Team and evolve pins. The amount of PP you gain depends on your combat performance which is evaluated after the encounter.
Combat performance is evaluated based on the factors below.
Factor | Details |
---|---|
Rounds | How many rounds or waves of enemies you cleared after initiating combat. The more rounds you cleared, the higher the PP multiplier. |
Time | How fast you defeated all enemies throughout all rounds. The faster you clear the battle, the more PP you will get. |
Damage | How much damage you took from enemies throughout all rounds. The lower the damage you took from enemies, the more PP you will get. |
Pins
Noise enemies also drop Pins which is arguably the most important combat resource in the game. Stronger Noise which are mostly encountered on higher game difficulties will drop more powerful Pins compared to their weaker kin that appear on the easier modes. Try to defeat as many foes as you can while exploring the streets of Shibuya to collect Pins and expand your tactical possibilities.
