How to Unlock Easy, Hard, and Ultimate Difficulty in NEO: The World Ends with You
When starting a new game in NEO: The World Ends With You, the difficulty is set to Normal by default. By playing through the main story, you will be able to unlock the higher difficulty modes.
Playing on other difficulty modes lets you encounter stronger enemies that will drop rare Pins upon defeat. Because of this, it is recommended to play at a setting above Normal if you intend to farm for powerful Pins.
Unlocking Difficulty Modes
On Week 1, Day 4, the Social Network feature will become available. The initial perks that you can unlock include the Easy Mode and Hard Mode. Friendship Points (FP) are needed to activate these features. After a Difficulty Mode is released, simply access the Difficulty and Team Level menu by pressing the Options button to change the setting.
Social Network List and Rewards
Below are the methods to unlock Easy, Hard, and Ultimate difficulty in the game:
Easy Difficulty
Easy Difficulty can be unlocked through Fret‘s Social Network perk. Note that it costs 2 Friendship Points to unlock.
Hard Difficulty
Hard Difficulty is unlocked through Sho Minamimoto‘s Social Network perk which becomes available on Week 1, Day4. Note that it costs 3 Friendship Points to unlock. You will want to unlock Hard Mode as soon as possible to obtain rare Pins early.
Ultimate Difficulty
Ultimate Difficulty is accessed through Joshua’s Social Network node which becomes available after beating the game (Week 3, Day 9), making it essentially a post-game unlockable. Note that Joshua’ character node is one of two nodes that become available after clearing the main story, the other being Hazuki Mikagi’s which allows you to encounter Blue Noise that drop Secret Reports.
