AC Leg Types Summary and Beginner Recommendations

Leg Type Features Recommendation
Bipedal Legs
  • Easiest legs to use.
  • No unique mechanics or gimmicks to get used to.
  • Well-suited for beginners and new players out of all leg types because of its decent versatility and good balance of AP and load limit.
Reverse Joint Legs
  • High jumping ability.
  • Allows you to easily attack from a good height by taking advantage of the leg’s high jumping power.
  • Requires charging when jumping which may take some getting used to.
Tetrapod Legs
  • High load limit lets you carry a large number of heavy weapons or equip heavy parts (for higher max AP).
  • Some weapons can be fired while moving.
  • Hover mode allows you to stay in the air for extended periods.
Tank Legs
  • Excellent armor and load limit for high AP, defense, and number of weapons to mount.
  • Absorbs shooting recoil, allowing you to use heavy weapons without having to switch to the weapon firing “stance.”
  • “Drift Turns” compensate for the inefficiency of the leg type’s poor turning ability.

Bipedal Legs

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon (AC6) - Bipod Leg Units Features

Bipedal legs are the most beginner-friendly leg types to use, owing to the lack of any particular mechanics or unique gimmicks to learn with them. Most bipedal units have decent to above-average AP, mobility, and load limit and is the best starting point for learning the game’s various mechanics.

Reverse Joint Legs

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon (AC6) - Reverse Joint Leg Units Features

Reverse joint legs (sometimes referred to as “chicken legs”) emphasize mobility and are favored by those who prefer fast, aggressive, and evasive playstyles (hit-and-run). This leg configuration is also known for granting your AC incredible jumping ability and quick aerial maneuvering.

Reverse joint legs, however, suffer from having generally low AP and load limit so players new to the series may opt to turn to other leg types for better survivability and firepower.

Tetrapod Legs

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon (AC6) - Tetrapod Leg Units Features

Tetrapod legs (sometimes referred to as “quad legs”, “tarantula legs”, and “four legs”) come with the ability to enter hover mode. This unique maneuver lets you stay airborne longer to pepper your targets from a distance. You can also fire certain back weapons while moving which further makes this leg type excellent for players who frequently exploit positioning to dominate engagements at long range (keep-away playstyle).

Most tetrapod leg parts also generally have very good AP and load limit for their weight, making them a good choice even for beginners.

Tank Legs

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon (AC6) - Tank Leg Units Features

Tank legs (sometimes referred to as “caterpillar legs” or “panzer legs”) typically boast the highest AP and load limit out of all leg types in the game. Because of this, it is the clear favorite of players who prioritize both raw firepower and defense to outshoot and outlast their opponents. Tanks legs also enjoy the advantage of no longer needing to enter a weapon firing “stance” when using heavy back weapons.

These strengths come at the cost of the leg type’s poor mobility, especially when turning normally or when maneuvering in the air. To compensate for the former, tank legs are able to perform Drift Turn which lets them change directions quickly when on the ground.

Which Leg Type Should Beginners and New Players use?

Bipedal legs are recommended.

In general, beginners and new players may find it easier to use bipedal legs for their first playthrough of Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon (AC6/Armored Core VI). The leg type does not have any glaring weaknesses in terms of AP, load limit, and mobility, though it does not boast any unique mechanics as well. Overall, the  sheer ease-of-use that bipedal legs offer make it the best leg unit configuration for first-timers and is even a popular choice for veterans to the series.
